Do you know how to string a tennis racket? Hi everyone, Karue here. Confession, I don’t know how to string rackets... So we decided to make a video for people who want to learn this skill (like myself). The goal with this tutorial is for anyone to be able to follow along with Austin and string their own racket. Stringing can be intimidating, so we wanted to give you a way to learn it properly.
Before you start, keep in mind a couple of things. First, stringing machines are different from one to another, so make sure you know your tool. Second, people who string tennis rackets have different tips and tricks on how to make the process easier. In this video you’ll learn Austin’s tips. If you have any questions, please comment below and we will try to assist you the best we can.

Thank you for this tutorial and tips. I'm looking at electronic stringing machines for our kid's team. Right now they're spending $30 to $35 each time around 6 times each season. A few are playing year round now. Thanks!

Great video! In TW website, it says one piece stringing for the pure strike 98 16x19. Is that just a suggestion? Would the 2-piece stringing work just as well?

If u pull the first 2 mains together at 60lbs, (30lbs) each. u can avoid any slippage. Then go back and pull and reclamp at the tesion u are stringing for each string

Interesting how every stringer on yt does their stringing just a little bit differently. From what I've learned you shouldn't string OVER the throat but go under, you don't gain anything from going over anyway, not even time. Another thing I noticed is that the pro stringer that gave a course at our club (some time ago, that might've changed?) set tension to the first 2 mains together, before setting the first clamp (he said you could also use a starting clamp) because you shouldn't use clamps on strings without tension and then obviously had to string them again, so that actually costs a couple of seconds. You might want to give Tennis Spins tutorial on the crosses a look, because weaving in 2 crosses and then setting tension to the one before makes it a little(!) bit easier to go fast on this. Don't look at his "starting" knot though (albeit it seems to work well for him). ;D Still a good video overall with the slowmos and all the explanation you need!

can't see the tension head but do you typically pull strings running above the throat vs under or does it matter?

I was told you always pull under the throat.

@@stevebatte1147 that's what I thought as well, wasn't sure if on his stringer that the tension head was set higher up.. seems like it matters on my manual spring tension head.

Cutting the string like that can put a lot of unnecessary stress on the racquet, there are better ways

I highly advise NOT to pull tension with stringing machine to tie off knots! This is very dangerous to do, and you will break rackets. You pull tension OUTWARDS your racket which its not made for. Tips: Don’t pull tension on your knots using the stringing machine Use a starting clamp to help you grip the string when tightening the knot Remember to increase the tension by 10% before pulling the last mains or crosses before tying off to compensate for the inevitable tension loss
