Thank you for your video! It has been very helpful. I had a feeding problem with my Howa 1500 223 on a MDT Oryx chassis. The bolt wouldn’t go back far enough to clear the back of the round and the round was stuck partly under the bolt and the round would feed skew because the bolt pushes the back of the round down when you push the bolt forward and the round wouldn’t go into the barrel. Your video help me see how easy it was to strip the gun to remove the bolt stop/release. I removed the bolt release and I ground a couple of millimetres off the relevant corner. I reassembled the gun. The bolt now goes back far enough to clear the back of the cartridge when I pull the bolt back and now pick up the round properly and feeds it straight into the barrel without a problem. Once again thank you for your video!

Thanks Geoff. Brief as you say, but very informative and clear instruction. Extremely useful video and clear narrative.

Thanks, had stripped down my howa 308 a few months ago for some work and forgot how the bolt catch went back on. Simple and to the point. Good work.

After pulling my Howa pin out now twice. It isn't a chore to remove it and perform maintenance on it. Thanks again for the information.

+Big Gee Thank you. May upload taking the pin out of the cap but don't know whether folk would find that useful/

Thanks for this video, most helpful as I have not wanted to strip my Howa down, I just clean the barrel and give the whole action a clean with high pressure air and then a very light oil. I'll leave it alone for people who know.

Good job, Geoff. To release the tension just open the floor plate before you loosen the action screws :)

Hi Geoff, great video and very very helpful. One question: which screwdriver do you need for the main stock bolts?

Nice video...can anyone help me? I have a howa 1500 in .223 the bolt operation is perfect when the gun is empty but when I go to eject some fired cases the bolt is very hard to retract? The bolt loads rounds very smoothly no issue sliding the loaded round into the chamber easy to close and lower bolt handle then fire and bolt handle lifts up fine then I have to hit the bolt with my hand to get it to move backward after the first mm or so the bolt slides back easy.......I have used a chamber brush, bore scrub, taken the bolt apart and cleaned it,I have blown the chamber out with compressed air to make sure no oil,I have tried no oil on the bolt,a little oil a lot of oil but non of this has solved the problem,I can not see any damage or excessive rubbing on the bolt or lugs the gun has fired about 1000rounds and all factory loaded ammunition does it with all brands but some worse than others.......any ideas?

ok, but what about loctite? after several disassemblies these main stock bolts screw out by themselves during shoting. Please, keep in mind that fact. You have to fix the bolts. Also IMHO using of torque is also highly adviced.

+Andrew Khanoff Thanks Andrew, I did mentiond that the correct torque spec should be used. Basic checks are obviously the way forward prior to using any firearm. Loctite red is fine if required as it is also seperatable.

+Geoff Bullock, thank you for prompt reply. Have you ever seen torque specs table recommended by Howa?

+Andrew Khanoff Sorry Andrew, no. I don't need one really due to experience. Please share with us if you have one Sir.

+Geoff Bullock, manual of B&C tells only about 50-60 inch/pounds on action bolts. I've change default hogue stock to Medalist 2998. Really nice stock.
