This sounds absolutely amazing! I just ordered a bottle of Paint Blitzer and videos of people using it looks like they use SOOOO much and I don't want to pay the 25 bucks to only strip like 10 minis. Ziplock bags won't melt or anything like that?
@thefightingfedora29769 ай бұрын
@@Thornspyre81 Best to test it out first but I figure if it's safe to use ON plastic then it's probably safe to use IN plastic right? If the bag fails, use the bottom of a beer can. Much smaller than a butter tub at least.

That stuff seems pretty amazing. I'll be honest that one of my concerns about buying a second-hand army is that they're already painted, and probably not in a scheme I like. This takes a lot of that worry away. It also gives me confidence that when I start painting a new army if I end up not liking the way it turns out, I can just strip it and try again.
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
I definitely think second hand armies have a lot more life left in them, especially if you have time to redo them to your own liking. Even for those once off models from Ebay, this stuff would work great and some times (badly) painted models are a lot cheaper than boxed models! And yes, it's great for testing paint schemes as well! I recently wanted to strip resin models I bought on ebay, they weren't painted, just primed but the primer was flaking off so I reprimed and painted them but it turned out badly. I didn't have anything on hand that people recommended so I tried using methanol, tested on a FW resin sprue and while it did make the resin soft after soaking for an hour, the paint came off fairly well, though not the primer... then I soaked one miniature for 5 minutes and brushed it with a toothbrush... long story short: it kinda works, but not well... also the miniatures I bought were 100% recast so I don't even know if they're resin but they're definitely not FW resin... I may give this one a try and see if I can salvage my non-FW resin models

i believe plastic minis retain the primer a bit after stripping because the primer has a small amount of acetone or butyl acetate (these are the same chemicals that are in tamiya extra thin for example) in there, which basically melts the primer into the plastic itself. could be wrong, and i guess it depends exactly which primer you're using, but for plastic primers, primers for modelling etc, it's quite common

That stupid joke with the sweets was enough to smash the thumbs up button. Guess that tells more about me than the quality of the video... which is great anyway :D

Hmmm... Does it smell? But good to See that Other People have similar Problems while stripping. Metals Always Strip themself xD and plastic is Holding onto Paint Like a Lifeline
@MediocreHobbies2 жыл бұрын
Smells a lot better than other chemical strippers but I wouldn’t be breathing it in much to test it…that would make for a crazy video 😄 yeah plastic is weird how it attaches the primer to itself so much, think of it as two layers of paint to remove!
@ThaDenz69 Жыл бұрын
@@MediocreHobbies I think primer sprays also "etch" which is why when you strip a model which has been sprayed with a primer you can't seem to shift the "stain" on the plastic.

Now do it again and leave them for 6 hours as per instructions to see how safe it is for each material, since that's what most people would do when using it.

I just wanna say this, anything that can remove cured paint from your models is not very healthy to get on your skin (or breath in). Granted, there are varying degrees of "not very healthy" but skin irritation or other allergic reactions are very common when handling chemical like these, it is also not uncommon for them to have agents that will go through your skin and further into your body. Just be aware of the chemicals in use and the damage they can cause AND to dispose of them properly, no reason to cause too much unnecessary harm to the environment. That is also why I tend to stick with high percentage alcohol , not as bad, just need to be more careful with resin minis, plastic and pewter usually aren't any problem, for me at least.

I will admit i wasn't prepared for it to work as fast as it did, otherwise I would have had gloves ready but I do agree about the chemicals and skin contact. However I feel a lot more comfortable recommending a product like this than some of the DIY solutions some people have come up with (and that do work but seem risky especially for younger hobbyists) As it's also gentler, it's better for beginners to experiment with rather than coming back to a puddle of plastic :D thanks so much for your comment, I really do appreciate helpful inputs like this, we all need to keep each other safe in the hobby!
