I appreciate how your primary approach is "Take your time and avoid mistakes if possible". I see too many painters who say "Don't worry if you make mistakes, we can go over them later". That's inevitable to some extent, but the indisputable fact is "The fewer mistakes you make, the less time you will have to spend fixing them." Also, that helps to reinforce the habit of brush control, which is fundamental to more advanced techniques.

You could probably make some really cool stain effects by doing something similar to how you got that wash ring on the cape. Leave a big spot of redish brown wash/watery paint, wait for the edges to dry, then dab it off and you'd probably get a pretty realistic old blood stain
@Gankatron50002 ай бұрын
I have used a similar, but less aggressive, technique to remove unwanted paint/wash as you demonstrated on the Space Marine. Instead of using paint stripper I use isopropyl alcohol (99%) and an old brush. After a few seconds the most superficial coat of wash re-liquifies and I can just brush it away without removing the base coat. This can also be done with a smaller old brush moistened with IPA for fine detail removal where I just repeatedly brush over the area I want removed. Using less IPA prevent pooling and spread to other acceptable areas. Keep in mind if one is too vigorous you can start to also remove the base coat. I use this method for those times where I look at a model in progress and have a WTF moment wondering how did that get there? Somehow, taking a photo of my mini while painting tends to better highlight the imperfections.

Last year my father died. He was a huge fan of Necrons from the 40k fluff / Black Library books. I play the tabletop game and had finally convinced my dad to get an army and play. He wanted me to paint the models for him. He wanted them silver with copper shoulder and back armor. When the Indomitus box came out last year I bought it and decided to create a fluffy and fun Necron army in memory of my dad. I want to do cracked lava bases for the army using the lava as a light source for objective source lighting on the models. Here's where the problem comes in. I don't know how to do that. I was thinking that I could use glazes to get the fiery shine off the metallic bodies of the Necrons sort of like the blued silver armor of Grey Knights. I just don't know if that would work. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
@oliverwithers97363 жыл бұрын
I know I’m way to late but in theory you could paint the base orange and put one of the cracking technical paints. Then cut in the cracks and this should get the colour to shine through.
@poggestfrog2 жыл бұрын
Hey, it's been a while, and I'm very sorry about your dad. In the end, did you do it? If you did an orange base and used cracked paints, APPLY THEM THICK, tried the same technique a while back but it didn't work since it wasn't thick enough so the orange wasn't very visible.

That AK Interactive paint stripper is amazing. I left my model in a bowl of the stripper for about a half an hour (I got sidetracked with some other stuff and forgot about it). When I took the model out, the paint mostly sloughed off all on its own without me having do some much scrubbing with a brush at all. The stuff is downright amazing.
