Painting and Decorating definitely! Even worse where there’s layers upon layers of paint on top... that’s my struggle right now, and the room is the biggest in the house! Gonna take me a while!
@PaintingandDecorating5 жыл бұрын
You can always test out the steam stripper it may help,, but be-careful especially if you have plasterboard. Never leave the steam stripper in one area too long. Also there are different techniques on removing wallpaper and I have about five different scrapers. Every scraper is a different type and we even use filling blades.

Little tip.add a few caps of white vinegar to your warm water once you ve scored any paper.the vinegar react s with the paste behind the paper .softens the paste and it comes off alot easier

Parents still have this on every ceiling and wall in most rooms and not wanting it removed at the moment but it has some cracks hairline / some larger size. What would you recommend to fill those before painting over?
@PaintingandDecorating2 жыл бұрын
Yes sometimes it's best left.. always difficult usually hides rough plaster.. so would need some paper... We have lots of videos on repairing cracks.. really depends on how bad.. usually rubbing pollyfilla into the crack can be enough.. quick fix and emulsion.. out of sight out of mind.. thanks
@kevinjackson63873 жыл бұрын
I sometimes just leave steamer one in room with windows shut if it’s a empty house ,also wet the walls with warm water with some fabric conditioner in it then cover wall with cling film keeps the moisture in helps to loosen dreaded wood chip,the best is when it’s been painted with silk ,aahhhh

Great video. Currently I am stripping woodchip off the box room ceiling and its tough going. Couple of hours and only 1 square meter cleared. I will try with a nail block, but I am concerned about damaging the plaster underneath. I was thinking of stapling a load of flat sponges to a board, wet them and then prop the board against the ceiling. Oh and I think its not so good for shoulder/elbow joints - the joys of decorating ;)
@PaintingandDecorating5 жыл бұрын
Yes tough work. wood chip is either easy to remove or a pain. scrape off the wood chips with a scrapper and wet with warm soapy water. Keep applying water every 5 mins till it falls off.
@grahamdell95512 жыл бұрын
We’ve just bought a house covered in this stuff. If we were getting the walls skimmed by a plasterer after would we still need to get that glue stuff off or is it less important?
@PaintingandDecorating2 жыл бұрын
More important really worth giving it a good wash down... you want it to last as long as you can... not worth cutting a corner.. thanks.
@Ralphs-House4 жыл бұрын
Good advice - except steam strippers. They are terrible for underlying plaster. It heats it up wall too much, it cools and just creates more blown plaster. Trick is to get paper wet, leave it for a whole HOUR then light mist again before scraping. I use a garden sprayer with washing up liquid and conditioner (a little) in warm water. It softens paper. May have to scratch surface slightly. I used screws in a block of wood to assist penetration where paper won't budge. Works everytime.
@PaintingandDecorating4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, steam stripers can be necassery at times. But like you say not all walls are suitable to use a steam stripper on. Also there is a technique to use a steam stripper correctly to reduce plaster blowing.
@algypan6 жыл бұрын
Great video, however I have a question. With that old emulsion stuff you ended up having the scrape off. Could you have got away with using a sealer or something? Many thanks.
@PaintingandDecorating6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. possibly but your better removing loose to a sound surface, it may be hard to come off. But if left it can come loose over time and decorating happens every 5 to ten years. Better getting rid of problems so future decorating is getting better.

Hi, the old emulsion you are scraping off, I encountered the same and I used a machine sander to get rid of it, I was wearing a disposable dust mask and the room got very dusty very quickly, I took frequent breaks and changed my mask each wall I sanded, my boogers are now the colour of the emulsion I sanded off😬 I’m curious as to whether I didn’t protect my self adequately.. is the old emulsion harmful?
