Great video George, you made some fantastic points. I did not like her gatekeepy tone with regards to immersion based learning, you could tell straight away she despises Krashen input followers (and i say this as someone who did your 5 books then quartet 1 and 2!). There are many ways to skin a cat, some people just suit different learning methodology.

Yeah, you can clearly hear that she is not a fan of immersion learning by her "arigatow gowzahimasow"

From Okazaki, Aichi - ken! Wow, so great to see both of you together! I’m 70 till December and I’m just beginning to study Japanese seriously. I’ve only recently followed Oriental Pearl. I subscribed to George’s online Yes, Japan site way back when … before any books were printed. Unfortunately my life was way too complicated raising a family and teaching English from early morning to late night. I finished book four on line, but never started 5. Now that I’m retired I have no excuse for not studying Japanese every day. I’m studying 4-5 hours minimum everyday. I’m determined to finish every textbook I’ve bought during the past 33 years. I have always spoken only Japanese with Japanese who are not my students. However, I am so far from fluent. I was participating in an art exhibition for over a week which ended today. So I didn’t study as much as I wanted to. I updated all the versions of George’s books and subscribed to his new site as well. I have my crazy method of studying which I don’t recommend to anyone. I have so many series of books which I’m going through simultaneously from beginner up. I’ll probably go through them fairly quickly just as a review. I also study online at various sites etc. Thank you both for all your videos! I’m planning to travel around Japan by car and train using only Japanese with Japanese. I’m mostly interested in speaking and reading, not writing. I want to go to every prefecture and finish all my textbooks before I croak.

I love George Trombley! His method of teaching resonates the best with me by far. Unfortunately every time I try watching his KZbin videos on my p.o.s. TV, my TV overheats and I have to go through a long process of getting it working again. It's not his fault at all; his videos play perfectly fine on my cell phone thankfully! However, it's much easier for my son and I to learn when we have the bigger TV screen working. I wish the universe and my lame TV weren't conspiring against us learning Japanese. I love his videos so much! They certainly make the most sense and have been very beneficial to my learning despite the unnecessary obstacles I've had to go through to hear him. Hoping to move to Oita area by April of 2025. ❤

I recommend finding a very cheap used TV panel! There are usually a few at thrift shops and you can get an incredibly cheap, small one.

it's very validating to listen to two people i respect very highly debunking con artists on youtube trying to sell their 'tried and true methods' that they haven't even used themselves, really great video George and Anming, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I love George. He's my guy. I started from zero with his book, and I just love the guy. I feel bad that he maybe misunderstood a comment I made about pitch accent - he was the guy who first made me aware of it when he talked about the word 人

It's all good. I don't even remember it. Pitch accent is really interesting honestly or else I wouldn't bring it up so much.

It would've been interesting to hear about her community, what they are interested in and how they approach the language learning process. She hinted at that a few times, so I'm curious. There seems to be a difference to the JFZ crowd.

@ That is Japanese martial arts, Judo. Various chokes. Shime as you know is from shimeru meaning to close. Arm bars and such are "kansetsu waza". Fun names like Koshi Guruma, Ashi Waza, Tate Shiho Gatame (vertical pin), Yama Arashi etc etc,...these things fascinate me and are what got me fond of and learning the divine language.

Of course its going higher. Clickbait title. As long as there is fiat currency and the price of gold is in that currency, gold goes higher. Purchasing power is what you really want to look at.

I detest the practice of language teachers aggressively challenging other's and their methods. It's petty, and it's laughable because they are co-opting the language of another culture and acting as if it is their own.
@japanesefromzero
@japanesefromzero 2 ай бұрын
LOL. So if someone teaches something they have to have be native of that language? You know if you are American you probably shouldn’t be co-opting English from England right? And modern Japanese people co-opted Japanese from their ancestors. You are either a troll or completely unrealistic in your criticism.
@timmyireland1
@timmyireland1 2 ай бұрын
@@japanesefromzeroI’m not referring to you or Oriental Pearl. What I mean is that language teachers should support one another, but I often see some criticizing the methods of their peers. This feels hypocritical, as they are using someone else's language too. Instead of criticizing, let’s allow teachers to use their own styles and methods.
