How to study when mental health is bad // Use IDENATI for FREE here: idenati.com/about?ref=FayeNg

Many students struggle with mental health. Anxiety during exam season when stress levels are at an all time high is also quite common and many of you have told me that you experience that or worse.
I struggle with stress and anxiety, and this is the first time I am discussing about it in a video. I hope this video sheds a light on the importance of mental health and helps some of you feel less alone.
So in this video, we talk about how to stop self-sabotage which halts your progress, how to make a manageable to-do list that is not overwhelming, how to reduce anxiety, how to stop feeling so overwhelmed with big tasks, how to rest properly and how to reset your life.
There is a special message for you guys at 10:24 ❤️

I like your advice to not compare yourself to when you were “better”. I feel a lot of pressure from my family and doctors to “get better”. Like if I have a depression or anxiety episode, the assumption is that my treatment is failing and the expectation is that I’m not allowed to feel okay with myself until I’m “better” again. It feels like I don’t have the privilege that neurotypicals do to just… have a bad day/week/month without it meaning anything greater.
@internetgirl2001
@internetgirl2001 Жыл бұрын
same. i'm tired of the "but are you getting better, right??" question. No i'm not. I'm tired of being so pressured into changing something i have literally zero control about. Antidepressants wasn't making any difference. I might as well be having tums or tictacs every morning instead of medication, based on me "getting better". I recently found out i might have bipolar disorder, so maybe that's why i never get "truly better". It's just hypomanic episodes. I know it sounds weird, but knowing this makes me feel kinda glad and it's extremely comforting, because i know at least where are these eternal up and downs coming from, and that i don't expect to have a normal brain - now i won't keep on getting disappointed on my mental health- and i might never recover, but at least i can predict how things are gonna be from now on lol

How's it going now? No worries if everything didn't go to plan. Not sure what country you're from or if class schedules work differently, but as an American 4 classes at once is often considered a heavy load. What's the "normal" amount if classes to take per quarter/semester? What worked?
@sbee5645
@sbee5645 Жыл бұрын
@@mksjnd the normal amount is 6 per semester, 5 if you're half-load. I think the subjects were just pretty advanced because it was Senior Fall. The good news is the midterms were postponed 1 week. The bad news is I'm retaking one of those subjects. Thank you for asking, I hope you have a nice day

I wish I could hold back tears writing this. I was ignored so many times for not understanding certain topics in school, now it's gotten even harder to study and focus. It's a like a noose on my neck, it keeps getting tighter. I've always been a bright student, I've never failed truly but my grades are dropping nowadays. I have taken the habits of procrastination and other negative traits. Crazy thoughts cloud my judgement, I feel demotivated to do anything even the games I used to play are no longer fun but I still play it. I am devoid of joy for past 2-3 years, I've become lazy and keep holding myself back. There's no true friends I've that i can talk to. I feel everyone is pretentious and truth be said my parents never cared for sanity in the first place. I'm sinking in a bottomless pit and there's no to save me. Seeing my friends getting good grades makes me frustrated, unsatisfied and unhappy. Teachers are dragging my confidence down into shambles. I'm trying to bounce back but it's so hard, my mental health is deteriorating. I've become paranoid and anxious lately that I may have a major and fatal disease and end up dying young. I don't know what's happening to me.
@pranavv0571

@@BinodiniMahapatra-pz7vv it's not you. it's the environment that hampers your health. teachers putting pressure on you and interacting with toxic people everyday is just mentally draining. just try to find a hobby so that you can distract yourself from this things or do something that you always wanted to that can help you reach your long term goals, i am kinda recovering right now from procastination (in the early stages). just get a good friend or partner who you can share your thoughts to. it works, i did it and remember the key advice. And I get so unmotivated, I did a lot of rest doing anything, but those thoughts just consume so much that I didn't rested. And now I am also so afraid about future, about new things. I should make such a big pause in my life. I lost my confidence, my desire to learn more. When I start to plan the future I iust wants to get easy stuffs.... I hope that with a job that stretch me could bring me back to what I wants to be. And don't forget to find professional help. I am starting, and I hope they can help me.

What helped me is to talk with "friends" (actually I don't have friend, I cut all my connections during 2 years of pandemic... what I did was talk with veterans and other nice people in my class. And I am impressed how nice people are. It's hard to get the courage, but totally worth it! And I read some books So good that they can't ignore you The productivity project Atomic habits Deep work At the start I kinda was still comparing to others (the examples that was in the book). But at the end, I feels so much more determinate, calm, and I started to stop to compare myself with my past, with who I could be and about my goals

"Mental health" is something very important .But we all neglect it thinking it's just nothing.My sister's therapist suggested me and her that study/working is important but so as mental health. My sister had been affected by it very much in a worse way. I pray for her everyday that may she gets better . I don't want anyone here to suffer as my sister did so........ I get stressed from how I feel. And how I don’t feel. I get stressed from the things I don’t do and how I procrastinate. I feel stressed from my environment. I get stressed from feeling like I’m not living up to what everyone else wants. Stressed about weight, academics, appearance, health, social life. It’s a lot. Right now, I truly don’t know why I was put on this earth. But I hope to find out soon.

Thanks so much Faye. And your message at the end made me cry. I literally needed this a lot. I can't bring myself to even open my textbooks now. I get so much anxiety and stress, I can't even sleep properly. I just worry about how I am not doing anything and that I am a failure. It’s also really hard when you have people who just push you to live up to their expectations, you know. And the hardest part is that you know that they do this for your own sake. But when you are literally struggling so much and you are mentally and physically stressed, tired and drained, it doesn’t even matter. This is probably the biggest youtube comment I ever wrote. But this is a safe place for me and I just wanted to rant so...yeah.

Its the fact that you're losing a lot of things you're good at, but there were just problems overpowering. Anyone going through it right now, don't worry, probably u wont find someone that u know to help you but you do have 8 billion people and 100 years to find the perfect for you:)

Omg, this really helped me so much. I have been struggling with math since last year where I eventually ended up failing it, I have created a fear of math inside myself and I cannot even try to look at it. The failing ended up messing me badly which messed up my studies for the new semester (the one ongoing). This actually made me think over it and how I can just take a break at times, because I started forcing myself to do 20 things a day and when I could not I'd just feel really bad about myself. Thank you!

2020 really threw me off in the worst ways possible. I didn’t like doing homework back when I was young, but even with the ones I put low effort in and couldn’t do as well as it should’ve. I still passed. Here i am in 2024, not doing anything til last minute and regretting my life choices. I think I subconsciously don’t do it because I dread failure or the idea of it. The pandemic and coronavirus didn’t help as it gave me too many existential crises that really got me thinking what will I do to the point I die. I’m held back by my past failings, my flaws and the things I hate about myself. So watching this video brought me comfort, thank you x

I have never commented on your videos but this is just perfect content with perfect timing, Faye. I really mean it. I have been feeling myself and my academic performance as a failure, always comparing myself with others and taking it as a motivation to trry harder, just waiting for the perfect productive time, spending hours on social. I've been making myself feel worse. Thank you for the recognition that I tried. I've been feeling jealous about other's results instead of just focusing on my journey. I overthink when I'm resting and procrastinate when I've to study. I mean I dun really know what's got into me. But after a long week of not studying, I did 2 academic essays today. That's just a small achievement for today.

Thank you Faye. Really. There are small and strong messages in your video. I loved how you showed the little thing about increasing the focus time from around 5 minutes to 15 minutes, which felt so accepting of the times that it does happen when it seems impossible to focus for longer durations. The point about pounding ourselves over something which hasn't happened yet and being in the moment. basically i related to whole video and i think most of us do realize all these points but it becomes difficult to recall all these things when you are just not in the right headspace, and in those times your videos are crucial and help us all back to present. I stress about future a lot, whether i would be able to achieve all my dreams and it feels hopeless when stress takes over . Specially when you get in overthinking loops and hence procrastination.

Thank you so much for this video! I recently started my PhD, and at the start of it I developed the most intense imposter syndrome I've ever experienced. It got so bad that it sent me into a deep depression that I've been trying to get out of all year. I haven't been able to motivate myself to work, I'm always tired, and I've been constantly comparing myself to the student I once was. Because I thought I was a failure, I became too exhausted to put all the effort in anymore. It was a self-fulfilling prophecy. I just started studying for my qualifying exam and I'm getting nervous about how much I still have to learn, but you reminded me that's important to keep my eyes set on what's immediately ahead -- and don't stress about the rest. I'm not as productive as I used to be, but I've improved so much from just a week ago -- and it's important to be proud of myself for that!

Thank you so much for your video and you kind words, I really needed it. When you said to don't compare myself with the version of myself that was "fine", that hit me so hard like I always blame myself for not being okay more than before (because I am not okay for a really long time), and just realised it. I've been struggling with myself like for the half of my life and 4 years in Uni made it much worse. I sometimes think that if I am like that right now when I have financial support of my parents, than I won't make it in like adult life, I just won't survive. And it's peaking in exam period because the rest of the semester I distract myself with escapism. So, I hope following your advices will help me to prevent me from hating myself because of not studying. You really helped, I don't have enough words to express my gratitude for you. At times I feel proud because I've joined some organizations, volunteering activities in and out of school, and committees in the past year, but I've always held the position of staff and nothing higher because I don't feel like I'm qualified or good enough to take on higher positions. I know (and I've had a friend tell this to my face) that I can't stay being a staff forever, but it's just so hard to take another step further out my comfort zone when I'm already way outside of it. I feel scared taking up higher positions in committees and organizations and sometimes I break down in bed thinking I'm not good enough. I'm scared of leading people, I'm scared of delegating tasks and trusting others, I prefer doing the work all by myself, I'm scared of the commitment and the consequences if my team messes up. But I'm more scared of not improving.

This video really made me cry my heart out. I had been stressing so hard these days just to get that perfect score so that I can get into a best university. But even after so many hardships I failed. I totally lost my mental health. I was sitting in a dark room with my headphones on and after watching your video I feel like doing it again one more time. Thank you for your advice. You made my day. 💚💚💚 This is for you Faye ❤

10/10 good way of getting the information to my head and actually giving soil to my ideas on becoming the best version of myself. Thank you for that. I love the way you made the ads a part of your video: explaining the need and understanding how they feel annoying to viewers. This is my first video I've watched from you but you definietly made a good first impression. Your voice is also calming

Thanks for your messages. I really can relate to all the situations as I am going through them myself. It is really comforting to hear these from someone else, since I explored a lot of ways to maximize my efficiency and are settling for ways. Many of them really do match with your ways. Bad days can go really bad. But we can always help ourselves!❤
