This is why I don't care what's in style. This is a cool look. I've worn this look back in the early nineties and I still wear this look if the mood hits me. In style, out of style. Who cares? Wear what you want to wear. Your style is what you make it.

I think this style flatters you, Antonio! When I was little, looking through Mom's sewing magazines from the 1970's, I always liked some of the key features of the era's fashion, but the collar over the jacket was my favorite. I think it can certainly look dated if the collar is too big, but having a conservatively sized collar (like what you're wearing) turns it into a classic stylistic option for anyone brave enough to pull it off!

I remember that collar style look briefly came back in the mid 90s when I was a teen. It's been 25 years since and everything eventually comes back in style like the wide leg pants I wore back then. Teens are now wearing those wide leg pants. What's interesting about those pants is people from the 40s(and probably older) wore them first

Open collar + over the jacket collar it's been a part of my style for years. Just depends on the situation as to when I use it. Then again, I did spend forty years in south Florida. Serious casual business, going out on the town attire down there.

John Barrymore is a classic actor and like the others of his era he knew how to dress. People think the collar named after him is associated with the 70s but obviously much older than that. It definitely givessmaller men a bit more width at the neck and shoulders. I'm not small but I don't have huge shoulders so I might try this out!

I was born right in the middle of the 70s (1975), when this look was everywhere, but I wasn't far into my childhood in the 80s before I was getting strong, pervasive hints that this was a dated and tacky look, and I still flinch a little whenever I see it. But for all that, I've never been able to avoid it completely, especially since the 70s started coming BACK before I finished high school! And sometimes, it's the only practical way to wear a collar: even my polos tend to lay a bit like this naturally. So, I'm ambivalent, and always have been. Ultimately, I can say that it's not a "bad" style or a crime against nature, but that in the 70s it was *over-hyped*, and put on absolutely everybody regardless of whether it looked good on them or not. It's fine on YOU, obviously, but that bad memory ruined it for a lot of us, even where it's actually appropriate.

The Barrymore Collar is named after Me as Drew Barrymore as I was 7 years old and put the shirt collar over the Suit Lapel for the King of Canada Logan Lerman aged 7 in 1975. God kept it like that as a new style. Natalie Helferty Queen of Canada Hollywood Royal. No man gives me credit for styles for men. An old man was always a British Imposter taking credit for all my inventions.

Collar over lapels is one thing...what about French cuffs folded back over your jacket cuffs? Somebody showed me this when I was younger and I liked the look, but the 2 French cuff shirts I have these days, I wear without a jacket. Anyway, is French cuffs over jacket cuffs more of a European thing? The guy who showed me was French or Italian

I don’t think it works. Maybe back in the 70s or someone trying to be whimsical with their look. Which was the point of brad pit in that movie. He was supposed to look like he was always on the move and had no time to take care of his look or even stop to eat a meal which is why he was always carrying food.

This look is similar to having 2 days of unshaven beard. When you are Brad Pitt, Sean Connery, or John Hamm, you are hot to women. Everyone else is a bum. Sean Connery wearing a white tuxedo coat is sophisticated. For the rest of us, if we do it, women approach us to order a drink. Women, famous or not, can wear the same things. Men are very different. No, confidence does not get it done. Being a confident bum does not do much for you. Yes, John Barrymore is Drew Barrymore’s grandfather.
