About black, I actually wear black quite frequently. Part of the reason is because I'm Indian. I have darker skin so having an EVEN darker color helps bring out the color of my skin. On the other hand, if I wear white, my skin is perceived as darker. With brown skin like mine, the goal is to appear as LIGHT as possible so darker colors really work best in my case

Yeah, I can wear ANY of those colours and exude a familiar air of 'indifference' :P
@Pierrot9315 Жыл бұрын
@@phattjohnson Personally, one of the main reasons I wear all black clothes is the ease of mind when doing laundry, sorting things or mashing outfits together. But it has one benefit, it’s that I tend to always wear colorful shoes, so it brings attention and a unique touch. I also have a pretty intimidating physique ( I look like Niko Bellic in GTA 4, with more bags under the eyes), and an angry “resting face”. So it’s really fun to see people be surprised when an athletic guy dressed in all black with a face like that ends up being super friendly.

I agree with every one of those potential perceptions. As someone who works in the mental health field, I've personally witnessed the incredible effects that colours can have on cognitive frames. Most of the effects are superconscious and can be mediated by behaviour; but in the right combination, it's really quite remarkable what they can do in a social setting. Never underestimate the power of accents, shades and contrast!
@MrNicoJac Жыл бұрын
Can you list some examples? I don't need to turn my room into a mental institution, hehe - but hey it might help! 😃😂
@justaddlight Жыл бұрын
@@MrNicoJac Antonio mentioned a loose association between black and aggression, but if you accent the black with red (it's no coincidence that it's used on muscle cars), you can actually increase aggressive compulsions by attracting more attention to the contrast. Perhaps the effect is in response to the likeness of bulging arteries in a predator? I've found the reverse to be true with light blue accents. Flat dark greys don't do well when working with depression, but if you add a yellow accent, even a gold watch band, it can significantly curb the effect. And since white reflects all colours, I've found it to be the best around those in need of physical healing. A leaf-green works well too, but accented with white or gold. Hope that helps!

Red, white, BLACK, and grey have been the bulk of my wardrobe ever since I Was around 15. Being a bigger guy most of my life I have always leaned toward black and white with warm tones to help me wear my weight a little easier. Ever since getting into bodybuilding over a year ago, I have been experimenting with other colors, primarily more earth tones since change can be difficult and I still always find myself gravitating towards monochrome and reds again and again. Though this year, getting into more motorsports, British racing green has grabbed my attention is is making me really branch out.

My wardrobe is quite literally 90% BLACK. I have some dark olive greens, deep blues, and greys as additional options, but my base color is lack. I just don't think I look as well in any other color. Now, I do have a few specific outfits that are much more vibrant (Whites, teals, purples, etc), but those are reserved for special occasions. My everyday clothing is a Black V-neck t-shirt and black jeans, with maybe a red plaid overcoat. I am white with very rosy undertones and dark brown hair, it just seems I can never find clothing that compliments anything about me other than black.

Another great video. Thanks Antonio. I usually tend to wear a black suit jacket with different colored slacks and shirt, but on occasion I have been wearing a black shirt. I'm a little heavy right now and it tends to hide the gut a while until I can get it under control. For job interviews, I've found a dark grey suit, white shirt and red tie & complementing pocket square are the best combination. I've shared this with my brother and it's had good effect for him. I do have one interesting tidbit about regional issues. I'm originally from Peru and business attire over there tends to be very subdued. Mostly grey suit and white shirt with little or no embellishment. This is mostly because of crime. Anyone who seems too flashy or is seen wearing conspicuous name brands will be targeted so most people try to blend it. It's sad it's come to that but it literally has affected the way people were dressing. One other thing about purple, at some point in the Roman empire, it became illegal to wear purple unless you were the Emperor or part of the royal family. This had the effect of making purple a royal color in the following centuries throughout Europe.

This is great and all but you REALLY need to cover the positive aspects AND the negative ones - there are downsides for each colour particularly when making a presentation or attempting to sway an audience. I typically wear dark suits (charcoal grey is my lightest) and exclusively white shirts, the only variation I have is the neck tie (no square). Variation of the colour helped with different types of authoritative projection - red can incline towards combativeness, yellow towards more intellectual authority, blue for compliance and cooperation. There are psychological downsides of each of the colours you outline which really need to be covered - also I'd cover gold and silver in more detail along with gunmetal and brass. Those can change an outfit remarkably, gold risks dating you or looking too "try hard' if it's not restrained; brass invariably makes things casual, gunmetal varies a lot with culture, silver is currently more socially neutral but in the past it was associated with lower echelon people. If you could expand this to include upside/downside and perhaps include potential best-case scenarios for use; for example the use of pink accents may suit a female audience more than a male one as an empathy signal. Cultural use is also important - it's fine to focus on a US context here as you can't cover everything but mentions of other markets may be useful, especially making someone aware of what it could mean going elsewhere (e.g. where white is a colour of mourning). There are some strange political implications too - in the US red means Republican where blue means Democrat, this left-right attribution is reversed in most other places such as the UK or Australia, NZ, etc. possibly due to the association of red with Soviet propaganda. Prior to that maps with the British Empire highlighted always did so in red - yet our passports are now dark blue, something they banged on about after Brexit.

I entered the corporate world in the early 90s. It was an interesting experiment as I've always had a maverick personality. I soon came to associate the standard navy blue suit with negative corporate conformity (the dip-sh*t kiss ass personality types) and also personal style laziness. I avoided that color with strong disdain for years, and stuck with charcoal in the colder months and gray in the warmer months (I have a disdain for Khaki clothes for the same reason as navy gray). It has taken me a few decades to finally be able to add a bit of navy blue here and there (other than jeans, of course). I still can't abide khaki. It's funny how psychology works.

And then we have to figure out the colors that work well with our hair color, eyes, and skin tone. For example I love black but it makes me look pale and sickly😢 Man… color matching is like a field of science in itself😀

My wardrobe mainly consists of black and reds, with a few grey and earth tones here and there. Shirts are mainly black or pink, pants are khaki, grey, navy, or burgundy / red, and outerwears are mainly earth tones like olive or brown. My dress shoes are burgundy (no other color), and my sneakers are mainly black/white. Used to love wearing minimalistic / monochromatic looks, but I got bored and decided to sprinkle in some color here and there. Now I actually love wearing color combinations more than neutrals 😂😂

I for one like using some colors on my shirts, some muted greys or reds. BTW I think advices for wedding suits would make for a neat video 😬
