Really creative project! I have a question about preheating your heat press: were you preheating the press closed and locked down? I recently purchased that exact heat press and noticed that it drops temp as soon as I lock it down to press my item. To preheat the press, I had the top platen hovering over the bottom one but I did not close the press on the bottom platten to heat it. I am new to a real heat press and was wondering if the temperature dropped because I didn't preheat the bottom platen properly. Thanks!

All the presses we've ever used had a drop when closing for project. We did it this time because of the material. It needed to be heated more evenly on both sides to avoid excessive warp. We also do it for wood projects but more to get moisture out. Otherwise we don't preheat the bottom. But it was not locked down, just rested.
