Hello Matt! I'm a lifelong carpenter living in Indiana. I've always loved building furniture and other wood projects and recently decided to start selling my projects. I'm hoping I can do this full time one day. There are A LOT of woodworking business videos on youtube but yours are by far the most relatable and informative. You are an inspiration man. Keep doing what your doing and thanks for all the great advice!!
@731Woodworks4 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the kind words. Each time I do one of these videos, a part of me feels like I shouldn't be because I worry about giving bad advice and feel like, who am I to talk about this stuff lol. But I do want to share what has worked for me so maybe others can use that and possibly work for them.

One thing I recommend if you are making cutting boards stage it with something expensive like cutco knives. Simply because if someone is willing to spend 4k on a knife set they won't bat an eye at a $120 cutting board

Fortunately, I had a web design/seo background so knew the key words. As I commented in your last video, I just started a wood shop and Etsy page. I started with intentions of building furniture but figured I’d post sport team cornhole boards to generate a profit. Took about two weeks for my listings to generate but overnight I became a cornhole board king and am busting butt to keep up. I sold 2700 in the last 7 days and only have 15% of the teams up. I told my buddy, I may start a assembly line lol. Your videos lead me to start this. I was a general contractor, miserable, stressed and just wanted to do something I enjoyed. Found your stuff and said, “I’d enjoy doing this”!

I thought about doing something similar, just not with cornhole boards. I'm curious, how did you get around the copyright issue of using team logos?
@chadallen72808 ай бұрын
@davidcuba2487 I bought the designs from other ppl. For cornhole boards, ppl sell the vinyls on several different sites.

I do woodworking as a hobby currently building small items for our new home or rebuilding items in our home that are made from cheap materials and are coming apart. I use woodworking as a release as I am a combat Veteran and do have PTSD. Doing small projects helps me cope as well as puts my handmade projects in our home which my wife loves! I'm so glad I found your videos! They are very informative and detailed which I lOVE! Thanks for taking the time to do these videos and keep up the great work!!!

Hello Matt, Great video! I have sold thousands of items over the past 24 years on eBay, and am about to start listing woodworking projects on Etsy. I'm 82 now, and most of my shop tools are about as vintage as I am, but they are all kept fully functional...more or less like me :). I spent most of my teen years in Missourah, and about 6 years in Bull Shoals, so I caught your accent right away...y'all...I'm prototyping right now (retired engineer, so do advance plan almost everything). Also enjoyed your pricing video. I carried 100% positive feedback for all 24 years on eBay, so I do get the customer satisfaction and fairness advice you offered. Good stuff. Keep it up. Dave

WOW. What a great power tip! I search Pinterest all the time looking for wood project ideas. I’m a beginner woodworker, doing it part time, and I am always looking for new ideas. I have noticed that when I’m searching for “how to” posts on Pinterest that I land on Etsy ads more often than I land on actual tutorial posts. Great tip. Love your work. Thanks!

I feel like that Pinterest tip is something that is staring everyone in the face and until it's brought up by someone who made it work for them it'll keep getting looked over by beginners. It pops up on every Google Images search and it's a great resource for new design ideas and products to try out. Really is a power tip, hopefully I can harness it when I get myself squared away. Keep up the great content!

Matt I love the open concept you have in your videos. I truely believe that the world we live in needs the open and honest take of the lives we live. I am a struggling engineer. I came to the title late in life (I have one kid left at home). My wife and I have been trying to build a traditional eye to eye, face to face bussiness during the toughest time in my history. You Sir have opened my eyes. Thank you for that. I am motivated to continue down the path of the idea I have. Because of the three video I have seen of yours I am now more excited to expand the products and and and. Hope that makes sense. Anyway Thank you. Keep it up.

Appreciate All of Your Videos. Been building custom wood stuff for years, but just haven't tried selling any yet. I built an RV table for a buddy and one of his hunting friends wants one. It was live edge with breadboard ends. I have no idea what to charge this guy, but seeing a stock replacement table that is smaller size is 700.00, I could see it going for a grand or better. Not knowing is what's keeping me from stepping in a little deeper and with 812 days before I retire, I want to be set up before that. This video helped answer some of those questions. Thank You for your time and Dedication to helping others

Hi Matt, all the way from South Africa I by chance came across your videos whilst searching how to build a TV stand for my son. I think as many of the comments below, a lot of us play around in our workshops making all sorts of things, similar to you most of my orders usually coming from my wife. I too have been told by her and a few friends that I should start putting things on Facebook, never heard of Etsy and or if it's even available in SA, lol. I'm in a pretty high paying job, but continuously ponder about doing my own thing, and thank you for your valuable insights. I'm going to take your advice and start off slow as a side line hustle and see what comes of it. Thumbs up, and again thank you so much.

Thinking about making the leap. I have a couple products in mind to start with. The only thing I'm worried about is getting up to my eyeballs in orders that I can't keep up with, lol. I've followed your channel for a while now, and I turn 50 in a month.....thinking about my future a bit and how I want to spend my golden years, and make my hobby pay for itself a little bit to start with. We bought a house back in May, I have an extra garage that the previous owners built during covid that is a blank canvas- its going to be my woodworking shop. Planning on selling at the local farmer's market too so I can build up some clientele. I love building patio furniture, farmhouse style furniture, and other "big" items, but I also like to crank out small items that friends and family are always asking for. It would be a nice thought to eventually quit my job and do woodworking everyday all day, but that's probably my retirement plan, haha. Thanks for all you do, sharing your projects and experiences with us!

For several years I’ve been really interested in woodworking. Currently building a console shelf like one you built. I bought 2x2s for the project, but they are not the same thickness as my 2x4s, which gave me trouble when attaching middle shelves with pocket holes. I’m getting married in December with plans to build a lot of furniture for our home. I find building things really enjoyable and am considering building items on the side for extra income. Thanks for the Pinterest ideas!

I saw a bench you made that had anchors on the bottom. The bottom was painted white, and the seat looked walnut color.....I'm not criticizing here....but I noticed a couple of pocket holes, that show, on the inside. I had the same problem, and found any easy fix. If there's a chance it will show, get a dowel stick, the same diameter as the hole, cut one end at 45 degrees.....put a little glue in the ole, hammer the dowel with thee pointy end into the hole....let it dry, then cut off the rest with a flush cut saw....I bought 30 dowels aand cut them all at 2 inches, with a 45 degree at one end...great time saver....Great videos !!! Very informative!!! I may have to get back into woodworking again....Keep up the great work !!!

Great videos! Just recently came across your channel and I’m a big fan. I’m a carpentry enthusiast at heart. Love building and creating furniture and other pieces. Unfortunately my home doesn’t have a garage, so I’m limited to projects on weather permitting days. Hopefully one day i can finish saving up for my garage and make an income from sawdust therapy. Thanks for the helpful videos. Looking forward to the next new video!

Appreciate the power tip! I hadn’t thought of that. I also liked the tip about logging in with another browser to put an item in my cart to drive urgency of sale. I know as a buyer, that would urge me to complete the sale.

Power tip for using pinterest is always mention off hand by others but I love how you shared how you utilize it. I feel etsy sellers dont want to share that tips. I wonder if pinterest would work to direct people to Instagram or Facebook for sales. I absolutely see how directing pinterest to your etsy leads to sales... its basically another search platform with a 1-click away from purchase. Great video.

I'm very suprised Pinterest is the power tip. Although if I think about it, when I search for stuff in google, Pinterest does come up quite often. I'll have to get mine going once I start doing more. I just recently found you channel and am so glad I did. You seem to make your videos more for people that are just starting out.

Tons of traffic comes from there. Even to my KZbin channel from Pinterest. It's crazy.
