Here's a list of the mouse and keyboard shortcuts for SMP, as most of them are nowhere to be found in this video: =| Spacebar |= Presses Play, or Stop if the song is already playing. =| Mouse Wheel Up/Down | A | D |= Scrolls the score, just like the scrollbar. However, it cannot be used to extend the song. =| Home |= Returns to the start of the score. =| End |= Jumps to the end of the score. =| Page Up |= Scrolls the score 13 lines to the left. =| Page Down |= Scrolls the score 13 lines to the right. =| N |= Toggles note muting. =| M |= Toggles instrument muting. =| Shift+R |= Toggles the clipboard function. =| Mouse Wheel Click |= Allows you to select notes, as if you were using the clipboard function. =| Ctrl+S |= Presses the Save button. =| Ctrl+O |= Pressed the Load button. =| Ctrl+N |= Presses the New button. =| Shift+Left | Ctrl+Left |= Scrolls the score one main line to the left. =| Ctrl+D | Shift+Right | Ctrl+Right |= Scrolls the score one main line to the right. Here are some other useful commands (some were mentioned in the video, and most are visible in SMP by hovering the clipboard button): =| Right Click |= Deletes the note the mouse is hovering. =| Delete |= Deletes the selected notes. =| Alt+N |= Toggles note selection for the clipboard function. =| Alt+V |= Toggles volume selection for the clipboard function. =| F |= Toggles the filter function for the menu icon the mouse is hovering. =| Ctrl+A |= Selects all notes on the score, or only the filtered instruments is the filter function is being used. =| Ctrl+C |= Copies all the selected notes to the clipboard. =| Ctrl+X |= Copies all the selected notes to the clipboard, then deletes the selected notes. =| Ctrl+V |= Pastes all the notes from the clipboard. The new notes start at the closest line from the mouse's position. =| Ctrl+Z |= Undoes the last action. =| Ctrl+Y |= Redoes the last undone action. There probably exist a few more, but these are all the shortcuts and commands I know (I actually discovered a few while putting this list together). My apologies for forgetting to mention a lot of these in this video. Either way, I hope these help.

Thank you, Mario Paint God. Although I know most of these.

Thank you so much for the advanced tutorials I didn't know about. I changed monitors recently and my screen is now too small for this software, so I moved my taskbar to the left.

You're welcome, and thanks for checking out this video, too. I hope you'll be able to use some of what you've learned in your next Paint. Also, I remember I had to move the taskbar to the side back when I used my previous computer, as it had a 768p resolution (same screen height as the SMP window). By the way, just to let you know, I added new channel rules yesterday, and they're going to be effective soon. I added them because I wanted to prevent spam and other undesirable comments, which will inevitably happen as my sub count grows. One of the new rules is that everyone gets 3 comments per video (proper replies don't count). That said, it's fine if you want to have a discussion with me, but we can use Discord for that (my username is Darken#0144). Comment sections are mainly about commenting on the video at hand. (Edit: just saw that you read the rules yesterday, so I'm sorry for repeating myself.)

...Okay, this... Y'know, I'm glad that I watched this. Taught me a few things that will likely really help me in the future and some solutions for some issues I had with the songs that I did complete... I actually feel kinda motivated to get back to making MPC arrangements now!

This is a great tutorial that covers pretty much everything that I have learned from using Mario Paint. Great job on that! MOON + SPINY makes such a great synth, it's actually amazing! There are other great combos that other composers and I have used, such as PEACH + SPINY, GAMEBOY + MOON, FLOWER + GAMEBOY, etc. Possibilities are very large, so you have to experiment to figure out what combo works better in your scenario.

Thanks! Also, these other instrument combinations sound interesting, and I'll try them out next time I make something with the default soundfont. As for the video, its main goal was to make it easier for newcomers to get their hands on essential SMP knowledge. Hopefully, Xanderoni's (and my) tutorial videos can make it so that certain people who already watch Mario Paints give the program a try themselves.

Here are a few instruments that work well as substitutions for other instruments: - The steel drum works really well as a mandolin sound. - The harp works really well as a vibrating piano. - The accordion works well as a string sound. - The Yoshi can be used for percussion. I edited its sound in my enhanced default soundfont to make it actually percussive.

@@needleboy17 Interesting, I'll try this out soon. In fact, I plan on trying out various combinations in the default soundfont this evening. Hopefully I can find a few more good ones.

@@RemixerDarken Also, the string section combination. Totally what I need because of the kind of music I cover in Mario Paint.

That was great this is really helpful. I did not know you can do all that stuff especialy with the clipboard funtion
@RemixerDarken3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The clipboard function has saved me many hours of work since I've started using SMP, and I use both filtering and copy/pasting a lot. Hope you can get some value out of them too, and I look forward to your future work.

I've noticed that the tempo isn't in bpm, so what is the bpm to *MP tempo* ? (if bpm = 120, how much do you need to set the tempo at ?)
@RemixerDarken3 жыл бұрын
There are different ways to go about it, but I'll explain the way I do it. I set the tempo as a multiple of the song's BPM, based on its rhythm and on what I need to be able to do. By rhythm, I mean that I'm accounting for the song being in sixteen note or swing rhythm. Usually, I'll set the tempo to: BPM * 4 * r, where r is 3 if the song is in swing rhythm, or 4 if it's in sixteen note rhythm. So, either 12x or 16x the BPM. This puts a main line (the ones with numbers on them) between each smallest unit in the song's rhythm. It also lets you have volume control for the chords (as you can reduce their volume very quickly) and a lot of control on a note's duration. There are Paints where I've used tempos of 32 (or even 64) times the song's BPM, but this is rarely necessary. Also, you can usually get around needing that by using a soundfont editor to lower an instrument's volume instead. And to answer your second question, at a BPM of 120, I'd usually go for a tempo of 1920 (or 1440 if the song is in swing rhythm).
