Back in ‘73 my uncle wanted to go fishing off a spot just Eva of Pearl Harbor. I saw some nice waves and got my board and enjoyed complete privacy. After paddling in, I came across a local fisherman and asked why the surf was so uncrowded. He said, “eh, get too many shark because da navy dumping da slop.”

I love your thought process about waves. I remember in your previous video (and this one) you mentioned about waves forming thousands of miles away and we channel that energy in a form of surfing (or to that effect). That thought makes me appreciative and how lucky we are to be able to receive the gift of nature when surfing, and sometimes punish us 😂

Man I do love Surfline but I can think of multiple days that it was predicting 2-3 poor waves and then I show up and get 3-4 semi glassy. It’s right most of the time but I’ve had some very inaccurate reports as well

Forecasting is always not gonna be 100%. Sometimes it’s more fun to be surprised tho at your favorite spots.

I think this could of been done with alot more detail of what I am actually looking for in a swell/wind/break. Pick 2-3 local breaks and then relate them to Surfline patterns. What should I be looking for? Wind direction for this type of break? What does the swell pattern mean? It has so much information how do we dissect that not just "oh go look at the cams"
@hopelst2 жыл бұрын
Agree. There was a ton of info that most of the surfers don’t know how to deal with like okay, the longer the period of the swell - the faster the wave, but so what? How can I get that info in an app and what should I do with this info?

Really enjoy your vids. I use a combination of Magic Seaweed and Surfline to get a general sense, but am fortunate enough to be able to pop over to the beach in 5 mins. when there's potential, as they tend to be a little inconsistent. CoastalWatch Surf Check app was SO much better than Surfline. How Australia has allowed this American take-over is beyond me. Coastwatch Surf Check was FAR MORE ACCURATE and we could check the surf cams for FREE. 😭 Australia’s property sold to America, then Australians have to pay a subscription for it to America for the rest of forever.

Why does Surfline "NEVER" talk about weather modification on a "Global Level"??? Answer that Katy, please. All countries are involved in weather modification. The US Military said 20 years ago they would "OWN THE WEATHER BY 2025", that means they owed it 20 years ago!!!

"Brought to you by Surfline" actually means...? They gave you money to feature their product to your audience, is that right? Thanks for making that clear. I value transparency because it retains credibility. I appreciate you are making a living and don't grudge that. But I'm not sure how I feel about "product demos" which are not blindingly obviously branded as such. If you're really obvious and transparent then I guess that's... great! But, as you grow into this territory, I'd really love it if you keep it clear (a) if there was a deal and, if you're brave, (b) details of the deal. I hate to suggest but, with a firm tradition of transparency under your belt, one of the perks might be that you can take money from causes/people you're not entirely sold on, but everyone will know it's not-so-much your endorsement, but your need to eat, buy boards, petrol, camera gear etc. and thus any negative experience with the product reflects on the product, rather than your endorsement of it.
