A high volume fish or a high volume foam board. The fish gives you the option of progressing as you get better, however some people find a high volume foam board easier. Try both and see what works!

I got to try for the first time a surf board this weekend. So excited! My dream of surfing is slowly manifesting. Its summer here in 🇨🇦, Despite the Covid, I went to the beach for a swim after a mountain hike and nice person let me try his board with a paddle..I took the opportunity that came to my space. No waves here, but got the feel finally.....oh it is addictive! Not as easy as I thought even after skateboarding. Tough to keep balance. I guess wide and long surf boards are the key for first timers and small wavers. How long and wide should my first board be? I am 5 feet tall. Please share. I believe it is time for me to take action and buy one on amazon🙏🇨🇦❤️🌈🌎

Go for it Suketa! Like you said, go for a wider, thicker and longer board. It is hard to say exactly, perhaps around the 7ft mark. Try some hire boards to get a better idea of what works for you right now, then make your purchase!

Hi Great video yet again I have been wondering if those fish, flat, and “fat” surfboards are ok to surf up to 6 feet. Or could I encounter some issues with it if the waves get bigger? What would you say those boards limitations? Thanks And keep ripping 🤪

Good question, there is alot of footage of surfers ripping on fish type boards in 6 foot plus waves. Depends on the surfer, your ability and what you want from a board. Give it a shot, let us know how you go!

Not sure if you are in the states or not, but if you are go to Costco and pick up a Wavestorm longboard. They are $99 USD and are 8ft long. It is the perfect option for someone that is learning and is unsure if they will want to continue in the sport. The cool thing about these boards is that you will see all skill levels riding them. They are a perfect option for your first board, or something fun to add to your quiver!

I'm a bit confused ont he tic tacking. Am I moving my backfoot over the tail pad to try and physically get hte front part of the board to lift out of the water (or as on a skateboard to get the front trucks to come up of the surface you are on?) or am i just rolling from toe to heel ? Any answers from anyone would be great

It is a slight mix of both Lachie. The front foot tends to do more rolling from aide to side during speed generation while the back foot presses down to take the weight off the front of the board. During turns, the back foot may roll a little more but again, the back food stays quite sturdy normally - rotational moves may be an exception to this rule where the back foot momentarily becomes the front foot, for instance in land backwards during an air reverse. I don't know the exact model, but you're looking at all-around/all condition boards. The Lost Quiver Killer is a great example. Take a look at it's dimensions, and you'll roughly see what they're targeting.

H.B VLOGS 5’3” pod, they made a review on it, not sure about the volume. I have the newer version called the pod mod and it’s 5’6” and 31 liters. I highly recommend it and it’s my favorite board I’ve had yet.

Liam Nelson might be a high 5 but I know they actually make fishes too. They have one called a twin fin. My money is on the high 5. Possibly a rocket wide.

you guys look to be around my size/build (5' 10", 165-170 lbs), and are surfing boards under 6' and under 40L. I have tried surfing small waves on a 41L 6' 8" funboard and the only wave I successfully caught was a powerful 4 footer (the board's bottom is a bit convex in nature tho). I'm thinking about getting a 6' 4" 44L fish, which is substantially bigger than the grovelers I see you guys surfing in this video... Is there a secret to surfing boards smaller like these in the video (especially at my size/build)? Is it just something you "advance your skill" to? It just feels impossible to even catch those tiny waves on such small boards (I'm talking under 40L boards which is tiny to me).

I think fitness plays a part, but if you want to surf smaller boards you can try making the transition by keeping a higher volume, and over time lowering that volume as you improve.

Shorter yes, but they are wider, thicker and flatter than your standard shortboard, with extra volume to help on those small days. Speak to a shaper about getting yourself on a Groveller
