As a white boy from the suburbs who spent 6 years delivering pizza in the hood, these are all great tips. As long as you’re calm and collected, keep to yourself, and walk with confidence, you’ll be fine. I’ve only had two negative encounters, the first was because I was lost and kept driving around the block looking for a house. About 5 or 6 dudes walked up to my car and asked what the problem is, all I had to say was “my bad, I’m delivering food and don’t come around here often, I’m not here for any trouble.” They just dapped me up and said not to drive around like that in those areas. The second time, it was 2 AM and the streets were empty. I parked across the street from the house I was delivering to, and when I walked back to my car some dude popped outta nowhere with a knife and tried robbing me. I, perhaps stupidly, yet CONFIDENTLY reached for my waistband as if I had a gun, which I didn’t. Thankfully, that was enough to send the dude running in the other direction. As long as carrying yourself the right way you’ll be on their good side. There was one area where people would literally holler out “Ayo white boy” and hype me up every time I came around once they knew my car, we’d always have a good laugh 😂

I’ve lived in a small “safe” little town my whole life. When I was about 21 I was visiting my girlfriend at her college in a big city, and I had to take the bus from there to the train station. I’d never been on a city bus before, had no clue where to get off or how to get to the station from there, so I just asked some people on the bus. They were all very helpful. One lady lived in the hood nearby and offered to walk with me. She told me a bunch of the same tips on this video. Told me to keep everything in my pockets and not to look at anybody. She also told me about how the hood led her to addiction but she found god and Jesus after so many horrible things happened to her and she was saved and beat her addictions. Still thankful for her to this day.

Not trying to fight back is good advice. I had a new patient this week who got jumped in some hood in Atlanta (20 years ago) and ended up getting shot through the neck. Bullet completely severed spinal column between C4/5. He is now a quadriplegic. Lucky his cousin was with him because it took the ambulance 45 minutes to get there, because they didn't want to go to that area. His cousin somehow managed to keep him alive. But now he is confined to a wheelchair, has to have a poop bag, pee bag, someone has to dress him, feed him, put him in and out of bed, etc. When you say "it's not worth your life" it's so true - even if you don't die you do NOT want to suffer injuries from a gun.

Man, I’ve experienced a lot of this growing up. I grew up in a small desert town with a few gangs. Nothing crazy, but I’ve been robbed in the same way where they say “oh, I like that”. I’ve also learned a lot. I would say I felt pretty safe the entire time because I just kept my own business and acted like I knew where I was going. One night I remember being run up on by several gang members with a huge shotgun and I was in a car with a couple friends, and they asked what we were doing there and we were all just high on drugs and told them and they just took our cigarette and told us to leave . Lots of stories, I can tell you, but in the end, I never felt really worried there because I grew up there And you kind of learn these things naturally. But yeah, it’s cool watching this because I realize I just learned all of this as I grew up and has helped me a LOT in life When others don’t know how to act. Especially that part about acting dumb. That’s saved my ass so many times.

I live out in the country now but I used to live in a rough area for about a year after I moved out of my parents house with my (now) wife. The most important thing I learned is just mind your own business. Don’t give anyone any reason to even notice you. Looking like you belong is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING and I cannot stress that enough. Keep it up ODAWG, you’re doing gods work.

Danish edition: If a middle aged stringy looking dude is just wearing a wife beater and adidas, you have no clue what he used to run, so just give a subtle, polite nod. In general, a subtle nod and moving like you've got a purpose can get you far. If you win money from strangers, spend the winnings on the company. That'll earn you friends for life. Never cross the street, 'cause people might take it as an insult.

When I was younger in nyc I wore a very nice looking watch. 2 people walked up to me blocking my way and said “yo I like your watch.” I replied with “thanks” and walked past em 😂. It was like they were so confused they just stood there. I didn’t look back but a couple steps forward I heard one of ‘em yell “ay! What!?” But I just kept walking. I was trying to get home to watch xaolin showdown n mega man nt warriors

Bruh, i grew up in the area about a mile outside the city limits and when i hit my early 20's i moved into the hood because of certain circumstances (ie broke af). So, i bounced between the southside and west side for almost 20 years until about 6 months ago. Learning this on my own being a wb from the suburbs of my Chicago took a lot, especially only runnin by myself. You're tips are 💯 and I honestly thought this was gonna be a joke but you doin all the lil homies a solid! And its light/comical so its easy to learn. This is gold to the up and comers! Keep it up bruh, you doin a solid for whoever sees this!

When I lived in Cheyenne, i worked at a gas station. One day this dude comes in and grabs a bunch of shit but all he had was a bag full of change so I told him I got it. He said “what’s your name” so I told him and he looked at me for a hot minute and said Aight bet. Couple months later I was walking home from work and took a different route than usual. I saw this black car pass me several times and then it stopped and this dude jumped out with a shotgun in his hands. He said “you not supposed to be here boy” I thought I was about to die. The driver got out and it was that dude from the gas station. He said aye you’re So and so right? I just nodded and he told his homeboy to hop back in and they dipped.

It's amazing how this can apply to any dangerous street in the world, if you grew up in a zone like this you know most of these are basic rules. People from upper class with money are usually the clueless ones in situations like this.

White guy here. Grew up in the hood myself although honestly it truly wasn’t we were mostly cool with each other and have each other’s backs to this day. At one point I moved to one of the more dangerous urban areas, and my experience which resonates with all these tips has helped me walk out of some dicey situations unscathed. The techies though who aren’t from there on the other hand are fools and prime targets. The people up to no good would think I’m an outsider at first until we engage….but yea. Great video. Funny yet really good tips

Love how relatable this is even though I live on an entirely different continent 😂 I was nodding along like mhm, yep... People visiting me get really scared of the area I live but it really is all about acting like you belong there and understand that most other people just wanna get on with their day too. After some time it just comes naturally. Maybe too naturally, I may complain a lot about where I live but it's where I live and feel natural 😂

Before I went to work in the morning I stopped at a gas station cuz I was on E.after I turned around to start filling up my tank this man startled me by coming from behind my car. I laugh and said o my god I’m already having a bad day you scared me, he laughed and apologized asking for some money cuz he forgot his cards at home. I said we are both having a bad morning, lemme help you and asked god in my head, whatever I grab will buy me time to get outta here, reached in my purse n got a $20- keeping my eye on him while I got the money.smiled handed it to him and said I hope your day gets better. He said thank you and started walking away and said something I said huh, he said you have a nice car, I’m like ooo thanks. 😅 then a cop car pulls in a second after that and I’m like thank you god and I get in my car n leave 🙏

I am not sure about the headphones thing. When I am riding a greyhound, especially in downtown Atlanta or Nashville; I often keep headphones in just to avoid people trying to talk to me or feel me up to see if I am worth robbing or not. I try to not have or hide valuables and listen to music thru my cheap headphones and I vape herbs for my nerves so I can keep my cool. Being a smoker is tough because to smoke we have to leave the protected areas and especially in Atlanta; they know this and try to hit out of towners passing thru when they step away from greyhound to smoke a cigarette. Stay with people u trust also on the trip or just don't leave the terminal until your bus is ready. Respect, Minding my own business, and staying busy seem to be key for me. If I always seem like I have somewhere to be and I know where I am going, then I usually do alright. VERY well made video. Good job.
