If 90k is considered low income and that's about the highest annual salary I'd make as a senior accountant in a few years without my CPA, then I'm avoiding California like the plague. It's already way too far to travel for me now so lol

It's combined income for 2 people with 2 children, 4 humans. So 90k is not a lot for them

+1 to it being combined income; also, wages are higher in the Bay Area. Oftentimes substantially so, especially for tech.

For a family of 4 $120,000 and below is poverty in San Francisco

Do you think a low income person would even consider buying organic or high quality? I imagine they'd go for the store brand or even the clearance sale items like going on the days meat is close to getting spoiled and are marked down (so you freeze it right away). that could save a good chunk to cover additional items.
@TinyMiniStealth

I think below poverty level would do that but low income, especially those that take into account their health and potential risks would go for healthier options.

@@SiliconValleyGirl haha, this is true. I ask because that used to be me, but now I'm prioritizing more of my health, but I still look for the cheaper options that are also healthy. It's a hard habit to break when you come from very little. Thankful things are much better now though!

Hello! It all depends on the “effort rate” a family is submitted to. From an outside perspective, these amounts seem astronomical (and they are nowadays) but then you need to consider the “cost of opportunity” of leaving in the respective country/state and other contextual possibilities (safety, environment quality, networking possibilities, job opportunities,…) Just an example, you leaving there allows you to create these pieces of content that have interest for the community who dream about SV and the sunny California. Thanks for the work, keep sharing 🙏🏻

first off your profile is super questionable but that doesn’t matter 🤣 second keep in mind she is living in Northern California which at the moment is one of the most expensive places in the country.. u are right our wages are higher but we also have high cost of living. But yes I agree she sounds a little out of touch with her wording. I’m sure it must be hard for her to make ends meet in such an expensive area even if she makes a lot.

Organic milk is often no better than non organic so check first. Also buying frozen foods is cheaper than fresh foods but 90% as nutritious. Your berries for $3 for 125-250gm might be the cost of 1kg of the same item. DOnt always think organic is best as it is often a marketing ploy. You need to do your research first on the product and company.

@@SiliconValleyGirl Love your channel and content btw! 😁 I believe you don't earn 90k so you don't qualify for CalWorks which is a California State assistance program destined for low income families that includes daycare assistance. $90k for a family of 4 is below the guidelines so they pretty much qualify. To be honest middle and upper middle class in California is having a hard time with taxes and high cost of living. Yeah some might complain that is because they are living in an upscale residential area but if a middle, upper middle class family is living in an upscale residential area I'm 99% sure the do it for two factors: School District Ratings over 7+ ( Better Schools) and second more security since we know how bad is the LA crime wise. So to support my comments this is the reason why I think 90k in California for a family of 4 is not as hard as for family of 4 that because they want a better future, place to live and life for them they earn more, don't qualify for assistance and continue to have a constant tax hike.
@net2dev
@net2dev 2 жыл бұрын
And its why taxes and cost of living will continue to increase since more and more low income family assistance programs are being state funded and other welfare programs also created, it continues giving reasons to low income families to move to California.

I know you like California but you need to be realistic , California is not the same as it used to be, why don’t you try to buy a house in another state . Prices for everything are very exaggerated in California and It is getting worse. I understand you as a foreigner California is the dream of many immigrants , they think is very glamorous but they don’t understand how life really is there . I also never buy organic food , they are just selling you the word organic . I’m not trying to be negative or anything I like you and you have been an example or success but I have been wanting to tell you that you probably need to move out of there.
