This is the kind of thing people who have ambitions to be "full time KZbinrs" should see, because it's nowhere near as easy as it looks. It's like any small business-it will take up a lot of time, it will require you to develop not just the skills you think you need but the ones which will keep your business alive, and to accept that you will fail sometimes. As often as I've considered dipping my toe, I realized that I just don't have the desire. Thank you for showing us behind the curtain

This should be the intro video everyone sees when they go to upload their first video on youtube. Incredible job putting all of your thoughts and experience together here, man. Thanks for sharing!

@EposVox, just wanted to say that your KZbin channel has been invaluable to me in learning the ropes with OBS and streaming gear. The time and effort you put into teaching us, all while learning yourself, is truly inspiring, and I know many of us here feel the same. I don’t comment often, but I wanted to make sure you know how much you mean to us. Cheers to more great videos-keep doing what you do best!

I have probably over 60 video ideas at this point and have started scripting maybe one of them. This video is giving me that little bit of motivation to keep trying

As someone that has watched youtubers for at least a decade, and have always had a curiosity in making my own content, but never quite been able to start, I was nodding my head the whole time. Started watching bunch of your videos to learn about OBS and audio. I love the technical side of streaming/content creation but haven't ever pushed off with it. You applying broadcasting knowledge to streaming could probably be attributed to me being live sound engineer today.

You can start any day! Just go for it. You don't need to be full time. Think of it as a hobby and enjoy it :)

Really good advice, especially the point about it being OK to keep things as a hobby. This can apply to creating anything. Not everything needs to be monetised and the stuff you create doesn't need to make you money for you to be considered successful or valid or worthwhile.

I will be honest. I don't watch a ton of videos from this channel. Probably a mistake. But I remember very clearly this channel had an answer I needed, when I needed it. And I had such a positive interaction this channel has always survived my subscription purges. Wish you great success!

Dear streaming/art/history professor, We're in different places, walking different paths. But when you talk about tech history, digital culture, and "analog dreams", it really resonates with me (damn, wish I'd thought of that name for my scattered blog and KZbin channel!) So much to say, but I'll keep it short. Please keep it coming. And sure, about time I joined your Patreon. (And I totally ger the weird “too young” and then “too old”. Lets break it.) Congratulations on your 10 + 8! 💜 Janus

Genuienly great advice Addie! This was an excellent video that I only wish I could have seen 10 years ago lol I'm going to save this video and refer to it every once in a while just to make sure I remember these tips. Congrats on 10 years full time! - Ryan

I've been on and off of watching your stuff, though that's pretty much how you produce your videos as well. Thank you for these general "quality of life" tips and everything you've shared across these 18 (10 full-time) years (granted I've seen only the recent ones), and congratulations!

Great video. I have struggled to make consistent content even though I took grew up loving a lot of similar things, computers, editing, streaming, writing, content etc. I have always had this fear associated with being fully creative and putting myself out there because I was often made fun of or put down by others when I was at my happiest (and the most inspired to create). I am trying to overcome that. I can't change the past, but I can focus on the present and aspire for a more creative and productive future. I am still learning to balance it with my life circumstances. It might not look like others or what I expected or hoped for, but it will be my journey and this video helped remind me of why I loved it. I just love to create, tinker, and learn. Thanks for your content. I come here often to learn and find inspiration. I am very appreciative.

Thanks Addie. I feel like everything you said is incredibly relevant to me, personally. I hope I can actually internalize at least some of it, if not all of it. I've been _trying_ to go full-time for the last 10 years, and at this point I think I need to let that idea go and just let this be a hobby that I get joy from, rather than the pit I put endless time and effort _into,_ if that makes sense.

You absolutely nailed it. People set themselves up as customers of the machine instead of artists. Those unhealthy habits still exist because they sound too attractive in theory. I've wrote a whole book on promoting yourself properly with prioritizing fulfillment, health and balance over success (which is short-lived at best anyway, if forced). Still working on the final touches of the manuscript. Your video just inspired me to keep going. Thanks!

I couldn't agree more, I think I've learned this a long time ago, I do videos / streaming just as a hobby and it's always been to have fun while I have my day job, It lets me explore countless of things anytime I want without feeling I need to keep pressing for the algo or anything really which it's amazing

Congratulations!! I myself recently celebrated my 18th year on here, this channel is my original channel I created at the suggestion of my younger sister. I started by posting my special effects videos from 2004, and for a time....that's all that was there for the most part. Fast forward to 2009, when everyone in my life was telling me, maybe you should do a game review show, and so I'm on my way to produce my 15th Season(also as life happens so said 15th Season is very late haha, but I do my videos on my terms and on my time, there's other people-like you!!-they can watch!)and love your opinions about gear, it's about what you do with it that makes it all come together in such wonderful ways! And apparently I finally have reached 500 subscribers on here. And YES to the "keeping KZbin as a hobby" SO MUCH YES. I make very good money in my IT career and it totally funds my tech *cough*Elgato 4K60S+ *cough* Keep making this world a more beautiful and wondrous place!! Take care of yourself! 🎮🖖🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️😊 Marcus PS-As a child of the 80s, I totally was kind and yes I did rewind. Cheers.
