You gotta pick a balance between maneuverability, speed, protection, firepower, maintenance and cost. The ARC-170 is powerful and quite tanky but is very slow. The tie fighters are agile and fast but are glass speedsters. The A wings are hard to control. Most bombers are too slow to really fight starfighters. Experimental and/or rare craft like the Tie Phantom, Tie Defender have compromises or are just plain too expensive for most people. My suggestion would be an X wing. Also 400k subs, yay!
@tylersharp57512 жыл бұрын
Idk I think if you wanted to maximize firepower you should take the original X wing Idea and give it some more Oomph kinda like a cross between the LAAT and the T65 X wing not a complete transfer but give it transport capability 1-3 squads of men for quick drops of reinforcements , but also give it the Mass driver missiles / concussion missiles , arm it with a few proton torpedoes as well as a nose cannon of some sort and the 4 guns more similar to a F-35 or F-16 with bomb armaments but for a star wars platform is my idea here but with black hawk crew bay , I think it wouldn’t match speed of most interceptors but it could match the speed of something like a Y wing with way more maneuvering way more firepower , alright speed but the armor to tank blows nothing like a turbo laser but a few gun runs from something beefy I mean so it has a good survivability you can cut corners in some places to get the cost just right too and still make it a great starfighter/bomber/ close support craft. Hmm however I deem we name it the Fett Class Vanguard ship , the first in honor of the namesake Slave 1

If you pilot an A-wing remember that the your weapons can swivel. Yes that means you can fire into your rear arc. And every turn a TIE makes (as it evades) is more room for you to maneuver, scan, lock on with a missile, or jump to hyper space. Learn to dance with your A-wing, stay loose. Your speed is your sheild, your sheilds are you armor, the skin of the A-wing is you.

Ugh! My least favorite part of that game(and the 2 predecessors) was the near-perpetual loop-the-loops to finally get the back of the foe so they could be blasted. Against the faster more maneuverable ships it would take 10's of minutes of looping and speed adjustments to get their backs. though i was a completionist..i had to destroy every foe, including a couple hours of hit-and-fade against capital ships just to destroy them..lol good times in 90's flight sim games.

@@russellharrell2747 Heh, easier said than done. The AI of the game would always try to take your back, so flying slower craft vs high speed, high maneuverable craft meant one could easily get locked into the loop, slowly whittling the tails down because the AI wasn't smart enough to break off and come in from the side. Flying the dredges of ships against those superior ships meant one had to exloit that AI any way you could, especially if completing all objectives *and* total destruction of all foes was the more satisfying goal.

One nice, simple move that can keep your buddy and you alive is the thatch weave. As long as you and your buddy can maneuver, you can draw anyone behind you into your buddy's firing arc. It's also a great way to nullify the advantage of a more maneuverable craft. Just try to get them in the first pass or two or any experienced pilot will catch on.

@Generation Tech situational awareness is the only thing I would add- not being greedy with a kill is certainly key to survivability, but in larger dogfights, always being on someone’s tail can sometimes be the safest place; so long as you’re not in front of an enemy squadron, rather, safe in the midst of the chaos.

Having been in many dogfights,I can tell you aiming for the cockpit does indeed work especially if you aim a head a moment before where they are going to be so you don't waste shots,Or a concentrated burst on the engines. One thing to think about is "What is your mission?" Why must you shoot down the fighters? In "A New Hope", Darth Vader gave an order to his Tie fighters to ignore one of the X-Wings because an X-Wing pilot broke formation and retreated. Darth Vader's mission was to defend the Death Star from the Rebel forces. Nevertheless, the strategy that you mentioned makes sense. That actually explained how effective counterattack from Han Solo and Chewbacca was. They attacked the Tie unit from the blind spot, caused the crash of one or two tie fighters, and caused Darth Vader to lose control. That was how the Rebel Alliance won the battle against the first Death Star. I also think about a part in one of the World War movies when the escort stayed with the bombers during the mission. I don't remember much, but I think that the enemy that tried to take down the bomber had to use another strategy. Why you make many decisions is important.

The Dicta Boelcke still applies. 1. Always try to secure an advantageous position before attacking. Climb before and during the approach in order to surprise the enemy from above, and dive on him swiftly from the rear when the moment to attack is at hand. 2. Try to place yourself between the sun and the enemy. This puts the glare of the sun in the enemy's eyes and makes it difficult to see you and impossible for him to shoot with any accuracy. 3. Do not fire the machine guns until the enemy is within range and you have him squarely within your sights. 4. Attack when the enemy least expects it or when he is preoccupied with other duties such as observation, photography, or bombing. 5. Never turn your back and try to run away from an enemy fighter. If you are surprised by an attack on your tail, turn and face the enemy with your guns. 6. Keep your eye on the enemy and do not allow him to deceive you with tricks. If your opponent seems damaged, follow him down until he crashes to be sure he is not faking. 7. Foolish acts of bravery only bring death. The Jasta (squadron) must fight as a unit with close teamwork between all pilots. The signals of its leaders must be obeyed. 8. For the Staffel (squadron): Attack in principle in groups of four or six. When the fight breaks up into a series of single combats, take care that several do not go for one opponent.

You can use the "hide and ambush" in space by shutting down emissions and going on visual scanning to catch your targets unaware. It is important that you have a craft that can quick start! But the MOST important point for any kind of combat is to not underestimate your opponent. Assume they are going to be dangerous and prepare an attack to fit that condition.

Here's a trick that Wedge Antilles pulled once or twice in legends. Let's set the scene: You and your foe know each other's locations, and you're down to a one-on-one duel. You're at extreme range, and can't escape the fight, so your only option is to engage in a joust - a suicidally dangerous move in which it's nothing but chance who wins. Now here's the trick that might tip the odds in your favour. Open fire long before you get within your enemy's effective range, even if you're even further outside of yours. Your shots passing your enemy - and even the few that burst on their shield - are likely to screw with their sensors. Without an accurate sensor profile, they can't line up that killing shot on you with any reliability, especially if they're flying a craft with its weapons on pylons - which require gimbals and thus rely more heavily on sensor targeting.
