Egypt which is vereenas background she is african and Egyptians r black people but with middle eastern influence but looking at her skin tone it looks like she came from middle eastern Arab descent and because her parents r from Egypt they most likely came from ancestors of the Middle East that tried to take Egypt for themselves look at South Africa u find white people there aswell

Being the only child of immigrant parents really is a pressure like no other!! I’m Mexican not middle eastern but I too was compared to other first gen kids accomplishing the most academically and behaving and being what their parents wanted them to be. I’m 24 now and moved out, and realizing that my life is for ME is the best thing ever. Thankfully I have a good relationship with them now, and they have come to terms with who I am, and the love is and always has been there.

On the note of disappointing your parents, what has helped me is remembering that my parents immigrated here in hopes of their kids having a better future and they want us to be happy and to have opportunities to grow that they never had. I agree that you’re going to keep disappoint them because you are growing up in a different culture to theirs but if you’re doing whatever it is for the right reasons or bc you know it’s going to give you a better future or make you happy then do it bc they came here so that you could have that opportunity

ADVICE FOR U BABIES OUT THERE: My parents weren’t that strict, especially after they divorced. But, I have experience w living an alcoholic/verbally abusive parent (living w only them n my sibling). I feel like I can speak on feeling trapped in a household; it is hard, like, so fing hard living in that environment. All you can really do is wait and bide ur time until you are old enough to move out. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents, friends, and in extracurriculars during that time. Also, my relationship w god/great spirit-whatever that means to you-is what gave me hope. The best thing is to keep your space in the ways that u can. When you move out you will feel so much better and your relationship with your parents will improve. My parent still struggles w this addiction, but it has gotten a lot better, and I am distanced enough to support them. All I hope is that sharing this statement will help someone. ❤ You got this and MANY people have gone thru it before. You will overcome!!!❤ (2 weeks later…jk the alcoholism is worse than ever, but it doesn’t effect my life anymore. Take care of your younger siblings tho! They need u!)

I started venting here😭 Wow, seriously gave me a new perspective because I thought that you were somewhat carefree during your early years, I was jealous back then. Not middle eastern but I've always had trouble hanging out with people other than my family. The first time i was able to go out with someone was my bf when i was 19 (I'm not allowed to have a bf but my parents just accepted it lol its been 6-7 years aha) I've been trying to be patient and obey my parents' rules but I'm starting to get over it now that I'm 20. I can't drive, get a job, and go on normal hang outs with friends/my bf. I was told that I'm lucky that they love me before and yes I am but that doesn't mean they have to force their past experiences on me. Last month, i turned 20 and was able to eat at a restaurant with friends. The first thing my mom told me not to do is avoid getting pressure to taking drugs, pills, don't drink and don't go off somewhere else. I understand that it is a reminder but the way she was talking to me was like I was a young teen, having no idea where I was going when I'm just going to a dang restaurant. I just feel very conflicted at how my parents haven't treated me any differently now that I'm 20. I just want them to accept that I'm growing up and to teach me what I need to learn since I feel very sheltered but I am trying to educate myself with things I'm not familiar with

truth is Vereena, i love you because you had the confidence to become someone who i've always wanted to be. growing up in a strict immigrant household made me a people pleaser. i could never, ever share parts of myself with my family for the fear of disappointing them or being judged. it takes me so long to open up to people - it's hard for me to be vulnerable. nobody close to me knows me for who i really am, i always have to keep a facade to cater to people. but Vereena, you had the courage and the confidence to go beyond that. to break free from that. you chose to not become a shell of who you are and you embraced yourself freely. i love watching your videos because of how authentically yourself you are. Vereena, to women like me, you are SO inspiring. you're the woman of your dreams -- watching you makes me believe that i can become the woman of my dreams too. thank you for everything, thank you for all the parts of yourself that you've given us. i pray for you, i think of you everyday, i know you're getting better day by day, but i really need you to know how much we appreciate you. i need you to know that everyday, you leave an amazing impact on people's lives. we love you so much Vereena. thank you for existing

No makeup, no nail polish, we have to wear muslim clothing, Hijabs, etc. I realized I wasn't Muslim around 15 and when I told my dad, I was on house arrest for an entire year. I wasn't allowed out unless I agreed to be Muslim again. No appointments, I was forcefully homeschooled, and I couldn't even go out to shop or anything. I agreed and I was finally allowed out. Now I just sneak around with clothing and everything. This was really very relatable and fun episode!

Strict parents raise stealthy kids who learn how to lie and hide things really well. Once you get past the mental and emotional trauma honestly its a useful skillset im glad to have😂
