I love the fact that your neighbors are not only okay with your homesteading, they're actually following your lead and getting prepared themselves for whatever might be developing in our future, Tessie! You've been a blessing to them in person the same way that you've blessed your on-line community on KZbin. You're so right about different neighborhoods having different rules and opinions on things like keeping chickens and having gardens. One of my former co-workers was actually gossiped about (not an a positive way) because she liked to mow her own lawn and do her own landscaping! This was in a very affluent neighborhood. She found it relaxing, but the other people on her block thought that only "peasants" did that kind of labor and she was demeaning herself. (Probably the same people had expensive memberships to fitness clubs where they could try to get the kind of exercise that she got for free pushing a lawn mower. LOL!) The power storage unit would be so nice to have. Just being able to have a lamp on and keep your cell phone charged is such an anxiety-reducer during a power outage, and having a fan that was usable in hot weather could be a life saver. I'd like to think that if there was a really catastrophic event that caused longer term issues we could all pull together and share our skills. Some people are good at plumbing or carpentry. As a retired RN, I know that I could still make use of skills like starting IVs, inserting catheters, checking vital signs and blood sugars, changing dressings, assessing lung sounds and so forth. Teachers could continue to educate the kids. Farmers could help maintain the food supply. Almost everyone has some skill that they could use to benefit the other people affected by the disaster. And you and Chevy Man have taught so many -- both online and off -- to be more confident in their ability to survive tough times! That's how the pioneers made it, and that spirit can still live on in 21st century America if we choose to follow their example.

we have a generator now for about 4 years it a nice thing to have. Although we have probably only use it 12 times but nice not to loose any food and be able to use the bathroom too. We can keep our water well working and stove and heat but we have always had a back up of wood to use just getting older and so we decide 2 years to use most gas heat.

Hey Tessie, I just made a review of this product, I really think you should check it out. I first got the 1000 and it was horrible. The company gave me the 2000 so I would take down the video of the 1000. The 2000 is just as bad as the 1000. Doesn't power a refrigerator with a 767 watt peak and the charger is a fire hazard.

I've been through a lot of power outages, often due to blizzards, but a few during the hot seasons (high winds). The okmo looks interesting, thanks. 😀 I'm temporarily in a nursing home waiting for surgery, just found out that all non emergency surgeries are cancelled. And as a "surprise" my daughter let me know that she went in to my apartment and cleaned it up for me. The actual surprise is that she got rid of all of my food, spices, etc. I had about 2 yrs for 3 people prepped. I finally asked her, if I go home this minute, what would I be able to eat? She said, probably Windex. 😳 I'm grateful that she tried to help me, so I am looking at this as a chance to get it done right this time. Didn't say that the silver lining is all that easy to find, but I will. 🤪

Well, Tessie, that was uncanny. Just as you were demonstrating your battery pack, my power went off, just for a few minutes, followed by nickel size hail, heavy rain and high winds. My huge black walnut tree looked like clothes inside a washing machine for several minutes. I hope my tomatoes were not damaged; the vines are loaded now, all fourteen of them, grown on my patio. More bands of this weather to roll through again tonight. My oil lamps are ready. I watch every day, even the advertisements and always give a thumbs up. God bless you, my friend.

How funny that you put out this video today, as my power was out for about 10 hours today, due to a storm(northern MI). I have 3 power stations, 2 Jackery's and one Eco Flow(only used the Eco today). I used it to power my computer and later the TV/lights. Later in the day, with no word of when the electric would come on(about 7pm), I started up my dual fuel inverter Champion generator. Plugged in my fridge and the freezer for a few hours, also charged the Eco back to 100% and watched TV(I don't leave the generator out, or on, late at night). I do have portable solar panels for my power stations, but no sun today. I also have battery operated lights on the walls, in the bathroom, hallway, kitchen, bedrooms and enclosed porch, so I can just flick any switch for light. I live rural, so no street lights, but I have motion sensor solar lights outside(they hold onto their power, since they're not on all the time), so everything lit up when I walked to the pole barn. I use these outages as a test of my systems, to show me what, if any, adjustments I need to make. Like you, I have many Rayo and the big parlor oil lamps, too(but didn't need them today, for only 10 hours). I also have many non electric items I've collected over the years, for situation's that may last longer. My James style clothes washer is one of my favorites! The situation today didn't inconvenience me one bit. It always pays to be prepared!

It's so important to look closely at what your family needs to get through their day. Especially if there is a need for any medical devices like a CPaP machine or a good cooler or such to keep insulin cold in the event of a prolonged power outage. I find that people don't truly think through these things. I have friends with a small child who is Type 1 diabetic. We live in a hurricane-prone area and their child needs insulin and his insulin meter charged. At present, they have no backups to keep his needs met. I spoke with them about some choices, but so far, nothing has been done. These are the type of people I really worry about. You have to really, really think it through and take action. God bless, dearheart.

So much good information here! I wish I could have chickens but I live in the city. I do grow some crops in pots on my balcony and that helps. I have been telling everyone in my life that it's likely we will have shortages again (it's already happening) and although I could live on oatmeal and rice and beans if necessary, our pets and children probably can't so I advise people to stock up on pet and baby food (even a month's worth would be a life saver if it's not available for a few weeks). Last year my poor old kitty did not understand why I couldn't get his favorite kibbles. Also, I have this little set of plastic racks called a "sprouter" for sprouting seeds. I picked up a fresh pack of the seeds and if I am not able to get fresh lettuce or greens at the store, I will start some sprouts for a healthy addition to my diet. I know we will be okay, but we don't have to suffer if we plan a bit ahead.

Great video!!!!!! Got to admit I am puzzled why when folks hear that a hurricane is headed their way they then run to the store for stuff they should have had on hand from the get go. Then they get to the store and the shelves are bare! You lead by example. You show people how to be prepared! An example, your oil lamps, non electric kitchen items. The recent hand crank bread maker is an excellent example. Am even keeping my eye out for one. Have a four panel 4patriots solar set up and I think everyone should own some type of rechargeable, solar generator. I know the one you were given to review is around $400, and that an All American pressure canner can be $200+ but these are investments. Even people on limited incomes spend more on fast food, junk food in a year. A few years back a new friend told me she was eating oatmeal for breakfast, had made a stock pot full of chili and a stock pot full of chicken soup and had frozen them in quart containers, and was eating them and some fresh fruit everyday for 6 weeks because she wanted to buy an All American pressure canner and making minimum wage at the time she wanted one so bad that it was the only way she could save money to buy one. Have had 4 Coleman duel fuel gas lanterns, a four burner Coleman cook stove for decades, which we have for camping but have used over the years when power was out. In our area where a lot of people are on wells and on the grid, people install hand water pumps on back porches like Lehman's in Kidron Ohio sell. People on the grid also make sure if their freezer has ANY space that they pack the area with a blanket to hold in the heat. One friend has two 5 gallon buckets of frozen water in her chest freezer which helps. The there is the GREAT idea of freezing a quart of water, stick a coin on top of the frozen water. Why? Because if the ice melts the coin drops and it tells you the items in the freezer have thawed and need to be tossed. With the holidays coming up what if people who want/need a small rechargeable generator like yours or an All American pressure canner, Excalibur food dehydrator etc were to let family/friends KNOW so they could give Visa gift cards, cash so the person could get the item they NEED and WANT?

I want to say first that you look really good! Glad you are feeling better. I am in South Louisiana. Our area just got power. Out a week. Some of the surrounding areas are still out. Thank the Lord we didn't have much damage. I ask you to pray for us as we went to South Africa on a mission trip. The country started rioting. Several people were killed where we were. We decided it would be better to come home early. The Lord is so good. We were able to get on one of the only flights back to the USA. Most all of the flights were cancelled. Jesus always provides. Thanks for your prayers.

Just be careful with it Tessie. We have 2 small ones but haven't really tested how hot they get. I'm not worried about the Bluetti but don't know as much about our Rockpal. Take care. 🤗💜

Tessie, we've also had deer in our garden. We finally got the problem fixed by leaving room all around the garden for a berm of grass clippings. Deer hate walking on anything unstable, so this makes a pretty good barrier. A "fence" of tomato cages can help too. Another thing that seems to be helping is that when I pick apples, I leave the ones with big holes under the apple trees for the deer to come get. No cleanup, and a good bribe to keep them away from the veggies. ;)
