Lot of good tips in this KZbin nothing wrong with using commercially canned products. I've got a mix of both in my pantry, sometimes you can buy it cheaper than you can grow it. And yes I see that doorway opening getting smaller such a feeling of unease. Thank you for helping us meet these times

Exactly! I do try not to buy too many acidic foods, because they leach the metal out of the cans if the cans aren't lined, but sometimes I buy canned food and dehydrate it if I find it on sale.

Thank you. One of the best on prepping. We have always canned etc but the last two years our family have been preparing and getting ready for the days ahead. I have been saving up for a couple of years to purchase a wood cookstove and today we were able to order it! We have bought a hand pump for our well and a small solar powered generator. Sometimes it gets overwhelming like we are racing against the clock. Our next thing to stock up on is our animal feed . We have our winter hay but still need to stock up on chicken food and dog food. Feels like it doesn’t end. 😊

If I might add, another thing to think about is.. what if I don't have electric or water or no way to cook anything.. I make sure when I prep, to pick up things I could eat right out of the can or box......canned beans, spaghettios, granola bars, etc. Also, another thing I do is, save water in gallon milk jugs..if something happens you don't have water, you'll need water to flush the toilet or bathe.

I believe you're not alone in your concerns about what we may be facing in the fairly near future, Tessie. I've heard so many other people both online and in person who are not entirely sure what's coming, but who have a sort of uneasy feeling that something is. Your presentation here is so practical and organized -- with lots of helpful tips -- yet without being panicky. And so much of what you cover here is sensible advice for almost any type of potential emergency. Even if we were in a very low-risk, low-stress era (which unfortunately, we're not) these would just be wise actions to take. Kind of like having a blanket, water, shovel, etc., in your car for winter emergencies. Some things just make sense almost any time. But your words make sense right *now* especially! I think it's very reassuring for most subscribers to be reminded that they can take important steps to help themselves prepare for hard times, even if they aren't able to can or maintain a large pantry. Any time we feel less helpless, we feel more confident. And you helped a lot of people to feel more confident today! Thank you and many blessings!

Good advice and I appreciate you addressing the subject. I used to help my mother can peaches and tomatoes, and make jam, but haven't done anything like that for many years, and now I'm not able to. So, a couple of years ago I started buying extra food, but I didn't store it wisely. The highly unusual cold temperatures we had last winter here in Texas ruined a lot of it, and I learned a lesson. I would've been better off if I had stored it under my bed,

@@Stoffmonster467 I don’t have near enough but continue to add to the amount. For me this has been a new hobby that I have enjoyed so much learning about and doing. I started with jelly and jams and have now got two pressure canners and two water bath canners. My mom is in her 70’s and has come over to help me and we are both learning. Get a dehydrator! I live in 500 sf, and my dehydrator is the best money I ever spent. You can store more if it's dried, and it keeps forever if you put it into one of those $10 gamma lid buckets you can get at Lowes or HD. I have TONS of dehydrated food and dry goods stored in small bins on the space on top of my cabinets in the kitchen. I also put up shelving all around the top of my walls to put "pretty" storage. I get tomato boxes from the grocery store, dress them up with paint, material, or contact paper, and they are decorative and useful.

Thank God someone did a video on this! I would also add that because canned meat is so expensive, people might want to consider stocking up on other fats. It doesn't matter what kind. Vegetable oil, olive oil, coconut oil, peanut oil. If times really got tough, a few teaspoons a day (about 5 per day for women) in whatever you have prepared will give you sufficient fat intake. I like to dry greens like kale and nettle and beet greens and then reconstitute in soups and stews during the winter.

Tessie this was an awesome video!! Like that you mention water. Could you do a video about your Berkey water filter??? Over the years I have gone in with a couple friends and bought cases of canned fruits, vegetables and even tuna. Most grocery stores in our area will sell cases of fruits, vegetables, tuna at cost, since their suppliers go by how many units are sold not what they sold for, so the stores often get a better deal when they reorder the item(s) Year round I tend to eat hot oatmeal. With some frozen or dried fruit in winter for breakfast, or overnight oats where I put 1/.2 cup of dry oatmeal in a pint Mason jars, then some sunflower seeds, cut up banana, apple, and some of my favorite milk, be it raw dairy milk or a nut milk and let sit in the refrigerator. The holidays are just around the corner and I encourage folks who want to can or dehydrate food, to speak up and tell family members that you NEED/WANT a pressure canner or a food dehydrator. As well as canning jars or other food preservation tools. Some of us went in together and bought a friend a small chest freezer so she can stock up on frozen vegetables or blanch and freeze vegetables she grows so she has food security. I have helped friends process meat chickens in exchange for the legs for stock and a few of the birds for my freezer. Hunting season starts next month so I will help friends cut up, wrap wild game (venison, elk, pheasant etc) in exchange for some of the meat. Networking with friends is so important!

I live below the poverty level and I can afford to can! Gradually I stocked up on canning jars and lids and bought a pressure canner, and got a dehydrator from a thrift store. Just bought a fermenting set from target. Some of my jars come from thrift stores and from garbage day or dumpsters. I save all glass containers and plastic containers and liquor and soda bottles too . The latter are good for spaghetti or water or rice.

I've been looking at my cupboards, to see what I'm lacking like corn meal, I bought those white canisters, at Dollar Tree, and Oxgen absorbers at Winco Grocery store, you can put flour, cornmeal, chocolate chips, salt ect in those containers, I use a sharpie and write on the lid, and cut the labels off for cooking instuctions, and tape it to the containers so now anyone in my family can read and see whats in the container, and I can go bulk shopping at my Winco, I just bought 4 pounds of sugar at .50 cents a pound bulk shopping is really nice and you can get as much or as little like bay leaves, I pick out around 10 leaves for about .4 cents, because I don't use bay leaves, but flour, sugar, I buy 4 to 5 pounds and refill those canisters.

This video was packed with great advice Tessie. I must admit I hadn't thought about sprouting but that's a great way to get something fresh. I agree about expiration dates I think you've got to use your common sense sometimes the date is just there because producers have to fulfill a govt requirement and the food has no idea it's life has been limited by a date on the package. You're absolutely on point that we've been given a chance to get our act together and we must do it, things are changing all over the world and it's our responsibility to take heed of the warning signs to the best degree we're able. Thank you Tessie for caring enough to share your knowledge and experience you truly will have blessed many people with this video. Love to you from 🇬🇧 🌹🌺

I'm sorry my children and this generation can never know the times I grew up in from 1950 on. But if you want a brief rest from all if this world, I found a channel called "COUNTRY LIFE VLOG". It takes place in a country called, Azerbaijan, I think it is around Turkey, Russia in that area. It is a family that lives totally off their land in the countryside. No modern conveniences, no fancy cooking equipment, they built their own house from scratch. Everything looks very primitive from our perspective, but all is very functional for what they need! All the cooking is done on open fires both indoors and outdoors, depending on the season. It is a husband and wife and the country type cooking she does is phenomenal! I thought of you because they drink fresh brewed herbal teas through the day, brewed with the fresh herbs she grows and dries, like you! You will love thus channel, there us no talking, just beautiful videography!( I don't know who videos this but they are talented!) She also preserves her food but does a lot of pickling of veggies, etc. So, so jnteresting! I get lost just watchjng! Very soothing! I really think you will love seeing these people and how, what we call primitive, they live from day to day and want for nothing!! Hope you get to check it out! I know you will like it! God Bless!
