Lane 3 is my choice as a new 125 rider. However, I tend to get intimidated, not by car drivers, but by other bike riders...usually speeding! I stick to speed limits because 1) it is legal 2) I am trying to train myself to accurately assess speed on a bike. It is not popular with other bike riders, it seems!

i'm going to collect my benelli bn 125 from the dealer this weekend and riding it back home, me and my dad have planned out a route that avoids the main roads and goes through the housing estates so i can really get comfortable on the bike. can't wait

I'm due to do my CBT on Monday and I must admit that I don't know if I now want to learn to ride a motorbike as so many videos talk about accidents, falling off, dropping the bike etc. I fully understand that there are many risks to riding and you have to preempt everything and everyone else on the road to be a safe rider but I want to enjoy the experience of riding around The Dales, where I live, to get out more and explore, I was looking forward to this new adventure but not so sure now.

Keep healthy dont ride when you had little sleep or any substances cause u need all the focus when riding. And most important keep doing skill drills.

Nope, nope and nope. Again, you’re not an instructor and telling people what you perceive to be as ‘gospel’ is actually more dangerous to newcomers. I don’t normally offer riding advice as my take is that you should seek real instruction from a well established instructor. However, in this case, ‘lane 3’ as you call it (actually position 3) is not to be used at all times. All positions have their uses at different times, situations and speeds etc. But in short, by constantly staying in position 3, especially on a rainy and gloomy eve puts you right into the path of oncoming traffic, it leaves your inside wide open to someone undertaking you and in your case on a multi lane road puts you out of sight in the drivers wing mirror as you overtake. You’re also becoming invisible to cars waiting at junctions by doing this - potentially. As for ‘seeing up the road’ if you hang back, as you should be in wetter conditions, you can achieve the speed limit, leave a suitable gap and see perfectly well ahead without being in position 3. As I say, they all have their uses but not as you’re doing. Never compromise safety for ‘correct positioning’. It’s also worth pointing out to riders that if you are ‘reacting’ to other road users motoring, then you’re probably doing something wrong. The idea is to be adjusted already. This is an ongoing issue with KZbinrs passing their tests and feeling entitled to offer advice that can be totally counter productive. Drivers are not ‘out to kill people’ or ‘do stupid things’. As a rider you must be responsible for yourself and help drivers to help you. People in life will always do things that aren’t in accordance with your idea of things, so you have to just make adjustments for that, be responsible, respect the conditions and respect the machine. In an honestly constructive way, I’d encourage you to seek further training if you really feel the need to pass on advice.
