Just checking out your video👍👍 one question it should be the same with a 04 Ram ?
@WildMountainGarage3 жыл бұрын
I don't know that it'd be exactly the same as that's a 3rd gen, but I'm sure it's very similar. Parts would likely be different. This method should at least give the broad strokes as the basic mechanics of this stuff has been the same across a lot of trucks for decades.

Hi, do you remember the part number for the gear selector, the piece that ataches to the transmiasion?
@WildMountainGarage3 жыл бұрын
I ordered 68263753AA from Mopar Parts Giant www.moparpartsgiant.com/parts/mopar-bracket-shift-cable~68263753aa.html There is a diagram on that page showing additional parts and numbers. I hope this helps!

I have a column shifter on my 2014 where someone replaced the transmission because the old one failed. I am having a hard time finding information on why my truck doesn’t know when it is in park or neutral. What tells the computer it is in neutral?
@WildMountainGarage4 жыл бұрын
Sorry you're having issues. The linkage from the column shifter to the transmission is simply a cable, like you'd find on a bicycle. Moving the column shifter up and down pulls the cable which moves an actuator arm on the outside of the trans. If I remember right, fully forward on the trans actuator is park. You can check to make sure the cable is actuating the whole way forward or backward by looking for the actuator. Make sure parking brake and wheel chocks are set up for safety. I believe I show it in this video when switching out the bracket and cable. As far as telling the computer what gear it's in, the trans itself has sensors and a computer to know what's going on with the trans. So if the car is having trouble with the right gear it's either the actuator isn't being moved completely between gears by the lever and cable or something wrong with the trans, like a synchro or gear not meshing. There is a completely different cable length and bracket between the column shifter and floor shifter versions. If you had the electronic round knob shifter that's an entirely different beast that I'm unfamiliar with. Hope you get it sorted!

Can you advise how to remove the handle from the shifter? I need to install a new shifter boot. Thanks...
@WildMountainGarage4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the delay. I just ran out and checked. It seems, if you're talking about the column shifter, that behind the boot you'll see two bolts holding the actual column bar to the shift linkage. You should be able to undo those and pull the bar out and put a new boot on. You might also use a pry tool and disassemble the end of the shifter, but I'd be concerned about damaging the plastic and gear select buttons there.

I have a column shifter and have a 6 spd ram 2013 is it possible to change it to a shifter nob ?
@WildMountainGarage Жыл бұрын
If they had the rotary shift knob it's electric. If the 2013 has a floor shifter on the same trans you should be able to. But you'll have to do research. Compare trim levels/interior versions of the same model year and drivetrain.

Can I do this if I got the knob ?
@WildMountainGarage3 жыл бұрын
You need the column shifter, the different cable (it's a different length) and then there is a different bracket on the trans to angle the cable a little differently. But yeah!

Why would you want a column shifter?
@WildMountainGarage5 жыл бұрын
I explain it in an earlier video, but because we have four kids now I wanted enough seats in the truck to use as a backup if my wife's Tahoe is ever out of commission. The console had to go and along with it, the shifter. Also, the floor shifter just felt like a car and I kept going for a column shifter out of habit. The console takes up a lot of space and didn't offer too much extra storage, although the arm rest box was much deeper and I did prefer, but I've found ways around it. Thanks for watching.

@@WildMountainGarage I'm wanting to put the center shifter in a 07 Dodge but can't find anybody that's done it
@WildMountainGarage5 жыл бұрын
@@chadreynolds1304 It's probably very similar in reverse of what I did if your truck is a gasser and the parts are from a gas truck as well. New shift cable, bracket on trans, center console and shifter. These trucks are pretty modular for manufacturing. But there's always something that's unexpected, like any electrical harnesses. There's always a risk of having to buy more parts. I can't say that it'd work for a diesel since the center console is usually on gas models from what I understand, unless there's some higher trim package, so the shift linkage and electronics would probably have differences between the gas and diesel versions. If you can get your hands on a similar year truck with the center console to see how it actually goes together it'll help.

@carlosalvareez3132 жыл бұрын
How much did it cost ?
@WildMountainGarage2 жыл бұрын
Great question. I don't remember exactly. The jump seat was the most expensive part for me off of ebay as I bought a new seat from a fire department getting rid of theirs and had it upholstered - maybe $4-500 for that seat upholstered. The other parts I got at the junk yard, some shift linkages and cables from OEM parts suppliers, and I sold my old console. Shift parts were maybe $100-150? I don't remember. Prices probably have changed since then. If you can find a salvage yard for parts, locally or online, try there first.

@WildMountainGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm not sure you can. The knob is electronic and the column shifter is cable operated. It might be a different transmission altogether, but at the very least has electronic switching. Sorry!
