400m all out in a physical education class, but I could’ve gone for a lot longer if I went slower. I think the most I’ve swam in one day was 1.5k

I started swimming at the grand old age of 64 last August (2023) - all of it breaststroke. Got the bug really quickly and really enjoyed my bi-weekly dip. On 02 Feb 24, I started front crawl for the 1st time. I couldn't swim more than 2 to 4 lengths until I watched your videos. Although healthy, excluding my snapped biceps tendon, I didn't hold out much hope of ever reaching 1 Km. This video, plus the others you have posted, helped me 11 weeks later to reach 4 Km, albeit slow at 1hr 40 mins. Thanks for posting these helpful hints and tips, I wouldn't be enjoying myself half as much without them. Open water swimming??? Let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet - LOL.

I was literally looking for a video from you guys on this thanks a lot. I’m trying to make my first 500 meter swim but still stuck on making it to 100 without dying.

I finally am able to swim one mile nonstop and what changed was allowing more flexibility in time to breathe. Until I am warmed up, I swim in slow motion and take more time to rotate more onto my back, showing my open armpit; other arm is in glide position. I practiced kicking on each side so this is efficient enough. I work at exhaling most air before turning to breathe. Simply giving myself longer to breathe, while other arm glides, was marvelous but then I use my core to throw my body ahead, stretch long, catch and pull. youtube videos helped but then I needed to experiment so I have options.

I would like to thank you for your content. In four months I went from struggling not to die in the pool after 50m of freestyle to swimming 5 hours per week while improving my technique, breathing, efficiency and my speed. Really you've been my personal trainer. Thanks!

I usually breath once per stroke trying to get to 1 breath per 2 stroke . Trickle breathing would do it but still struggling looks like quick inhale is not proper at times. I like to swim non stop atleast 300 meters non stop i do 2 beat kicks. Going to use fins to improve technique.

I used to swim for 10 years straight, but left during 7 years Yesterday was my first day of coming back to swimming, and I realised how little my endurance is. I somehow have a similar speed, but I get tired reaching 25 m! I also found I had a lot of trouble with my breathing, after covid I can't hold my breath more than 5-10 seconds 😥 I managed somehow reaching around 1 kilometer in 50 minutes, but with a lot of breaks in between and almost dying, having to switch too often to grabbing with my hands something that floats so I could rest a bit while just doing kicks etc... Any advice to improve breathing/stamina?

Open water worked for me, from long distance running, trying swimming.. i was struggling 2 laps of the pool. 2 months later blasting a few kilometers ooen water.... The addition bouncy of the swim suit and salt water amd every 3 stroke breathing has been the key for me. (I swim in a 300m shark net, so 600m return) enter nets at your own risk i will not be held accountable for rup tieds or sharks

They're open some places here, but with restrictions that are a pain in the neck. But the joy of at least having a lane a few times a week for a short time beats the frustration of the rules.

I came here wanting to learn how to swim longer distances. To watch a video telling me that I need to look at myself, doesn't help one bit. This only helps when you're giving the form and technique that you need. Without the latter, the former is totally useless.
