As a casual swimmer who wants to swim more, this really helps. I love swimming and because of this I now know that my catch wasn't the problem and that it was my body position

Hey faris, im 40 and started training swimming with a coach 2 months ago, iv not been in the water since i was 7 due to an almost drowning experience, so because of that iv been scared to enter the water. But iv began now and im reeally enjoying it and have started making great progress, i watch all your videos and use them to assist my swimming. Keep up the good work❤

Great job overcoming your fear man! GOD bless you and your goals! I'm 48 and learning or trying to swim actual laps. It hasn't been easy, but it's coming along ok by watching videos and going to the pool to practice. I started last year at 47. I had a pool scare/drowning moment at 12 years old. So I can relate for sure. But on the plus side, swimming is a great sport and very rewarding. 🤜🤛💪🏊♂️

Well, swimming my over arm side stroke, I see EVERYTHING in the pool. The biggest single problem I see in freestyle, and other strokes is poor core engagement. You can not get the rotational power if your core is not properly engaged. Stand with your heels, butt, and shoulders against the wall. Slip just your fingers just behind your lower spine, then try to pin your fingers, not your whole hand, to the wall. This is proper core engagement. I do enter the water with my hand more rigid rather than relaxed, called knife hand/penetrating hand in martial arts. This is a low profile/low drag position. Before starting the pull, I do open my fingers slightly and cup my hand slightly, maybe similar to palming a basketball. It does provide a little more pull power than straight hand.

Why is it less advisable to breath out through the mouth instead of the nose ? I can think of a benefit when doing an underwater turn, but am not sure about other moments.
@logun015 күн бұрын
If you suggest breathing every 2 then I would also tell new swimmers to ensure they are always looking to the same side of the pool. Yes one length will be easier as they will be breathing on their dominant side, however I feel that working both sides of the body adequately is incredibly important to encourage balance. If you aren't doing this then it will affect your body roll and things will cascade from there

I read that bilateral breathing helps so that one can swim better in ocean where waves may interfere with a single side.
@thatlittlevoice829213 күн бұрын
It's hard to find a consensus on bilateral breathing, but I do it anyway. Every two just feels like a bit much.
@HMZGaming0913 күн бұрын
He literally said bilateral breathing as an option but it requires more effort. Breathing every 2 helps with rhythm and I agree with him

Masters and beginning swim coach here…Breathing every two strokes is a poor strategy for new swimmers. They need to be able to develop a well balanced stroke by knowing how to breathe to both sides. Many new swimmers are aspiring triathletes who will find themselves in open water where bilateral breathing is essential to manage unforeseen water conditions and course directions.

Mmm? I swim for three hours continuously at 2 min 10 secs per 100m. I'm going to try this and see what happens.

The pool I use has chlroinated water, and i am worried its gonna harm my hair and since my hair is long, even wearing swimming doesnt prevent my hair from getting wet, what do i do?
@buzayehuyitbarek387713 күн бұрын
cool swimming even so i dont know how to swim i can still subrscribe
@crystalnipp680510 күн бұрын
Put your hair up. Then get your hair wet with non-chlorinated water (you should be showering before you enter the pool) then put your cap on and that will minimize/prevent your hair from soaking up the chlorinated water. Then rinse (or wash) your hair after. That will definitely help. Also make sure your cap fits well over your long hair. You can actually get caps that are specifically for folks with long hair. I like the silicone ones best versus the cheapo latex ones. I feel like they pull my hair less and are easier to get on. Warmer too if you ever decide to adventure into open water.
@biancanichols58335 күн бұрын
Yes, put your hair up, use a cap. You can also use a very light amount of leave in conditioner in your hair before putting your cap on. Of course wash, rinse and condition after swimming to help protect your hair.

If you ever think you will swim in open water then you absolutely must be able to do bilateral breathing. If not then when you only breathe to one side there are events where you are just going to get slapped in the face repeatedly by waves. And that is NOT fun.

Swimming is a very technical sport. Perfect Body mechanics is required for efficiency and duration.

That's a great rip off of the TI technique. Its almost 100% identical, even the hat just without the TI part. Yet it is presented in a much more simplified and straight forward way, with more practical directives and training, instead of tons of information u get in TI that eventually can become confusing and impractical.

We’ve created an app that help athletes sharpen their mental game with guided visualizations and box breathing exercises, swimmers seem to love it so far. Big fan of your content and it could be cool to explore a collab. Mind if I send you an email?
