Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This KZbin channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.
If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

I would say you should be a golf instructor at a club... but that limits who has access to your knowledge. I think KZbin is a perfect platform for you to share all the information that new golfers have NO idea they NEED to know. I can't change my swing. Changing one cog in the HUGE machine that is The Golf Swing, it changes like six other variables. I have my swing. No one else swings like me, but then again no one swings like Rickie Fowler! Great tutorial and general information for new golfers. My swing is like 90% of what you are explaining. I do things that no one I golf with does. My coaches have no idea why or how I do it, but my drives are straight every time. I can't explain it, but it FEELS natural to me. Great content. I hope you inspire more people to experience the heavenly feeling of being in the tee box. It's a sunny morning. Dew is still on the grass. It's 60ish degrees and warming up. The beautiful sight of how a fairway flows through the elevations and ground like it's planned by God himself. Wow what a novel... TL:DR - Great video :)

Thank you for the advice. Bought a few used clubs today and brought my 9 y.o. son to the park for our first try at golf. We brought 28 balls and only lost 4. 2 of my 28 shots went straight towards the target, around 100+ yards. My son wants to go back everyday now. After your advice, well see if we can run a line drive with much more power. Im confident Ill up my straight shots and get 15 of 28 straight down the line...thank you so much!

Stumbled upon this video because I was needing some videos to learn from so I could someday play with my fiancé's dad and have a good time playing golf with him out on the course, I've only started playing and getting into it about two weeks ago and I managed to make a mini-set to play with. Tried what you explained with a practice club so I could feel the swing and figure out what I need to fix for myself, along with pointers and tips from a lot of people I spoke to and it helped a lot. I may have to adjust my own positioning though, as I already have an L5 problem prior to learning and playing golf 😅 Thank you, Rick!

I have played golf for 30+ years, have never taken any lessons and struggle with ball striking and consistency. Your videos made so much sense and helped me really understand what I was doing wrong. Yesterday I went out to the range to try out what I had learned in watching your videos. WOW!! I was striking the ball so so so much better and so much more consistently! Thank you for this. I'm going to be sixty six in less than two months, retired eleven. months, and sorely need exercise and something to do. I used to work out a lot and had to finally stop after close to thirty five years due to basically wrecking my shoulders by continuing to work out even after advanced arthritis in both of them, resulting to bone on bone friction. I have had shoulder replacements in each of the past two years and only was on a golf course twice in my life, both times over thirty years ago, both times for nine holes, and BOTH times I was beyond horrible. I was basically comic relief for the other guys in the group. I told myself that I'm going to attempt golf next summer, and I really need to watch more videos like this because I have ZERO clue, but I'm going to see if my shoulders can handle it. You did. great job of explaining this. Thanks again sir!

You need more PROFESSIONAL coaching. Mastering Rick’s tips will get you closer to making good contact but won’t stop hooks or slices. There is nothing “simple” or easy about playing good golf because there are so many moving parts that must work together with good timing. What causes your slice is a combination of your swing path and where the face of the club is pointing. If the face is more open than your swing path the ball will slice (or gentle fade) depending upon the difference. So, let’s say your target is 12:00 and your club face is pointed right at the target (12:00) but your swing path is moving toward 1:00. In that scenario your swing path is more “open” to face of your club. That will start right at your target (due to where the club face is pointed) but then draw or hook depending on how big the difference is between the face angle and swing path. If your club face was pointed directly at the target but your swing path was going to the left (say 11:00) that ball is going to slice. So, the first thing to do is start thinking like you want to hit the ball to the right and swing your club towards right field (baseball term). If you haven’t changed your club face that ball will probably start fairly straight and draw just a little. Get to the point you can routinely draw (or even hook) the ball and then try to control the draw. That is a much easier and beneficial starting point to learn to control ball flight. Just remember that it is the relationship between the face of the club and swing path that controls the ball fight. If your swing is open (right) in relationship to the face, the ball will draw (or hook). If the swing is closed (left) in relationship to the face it will fade (or slice).

Rick this is such a good place to start. The only other thing I would add (for beginners) is to do it all about half the speed you think you need to.

Rick, I have played for twenty five years and suddenly couldn't hit a ball. Slice, hook shank, topping, hitting drivers like a wedge. Followed this and I am instantly hitting straight again. Thanks so much, I was ready to sell my clubs.
