I don't think that would be very comfortable to swing anyway. Those notches look pretty, but they're not going to feel pretty. Not when that slides through your hands. As you swing that axe. It's a hard pass for me. I like tools that are as pleasing to look at as to use, but they need to be as useful as a tool. As they are as decoration. I could be wrong and wouldn't know. Until after I'd done some chopping with the tool, but my first impression is it is not very useful.

That's probably ment to be a battle axe. I do have to say though, it doesn't look too sturdy
@debra-qq1np29 күн бұрын
I wonder how it would look if inlay were substituted for the texture on the handle... keep it smooth, but some decorative touches. Another option might be a stencil for light & dark stain. With dark wood, that may not be such a great option unless you want something that turns out subtle. As to the handle being weakened by cutting into it for texture or inlay, it is a good point. ... Start with a thicker piece of wood so you retain a thick base beneath the decorative touches.
This is definitely a showpiece. Obviously it’s the showpiece of tool that goes back thousands of years, and it’s most likely not meant to be used, but it is absolutely beautiful.

I live on 10 acres in the woods. I have to fell about 60 trees a year(dead ones). I would consider that handle design a form of torture. Top of the handle looks like it could stress fracture from the design worsening “overstrike” damage. Also, i don’t think any experienced woodsman would use this to split wood instead of a splitting maul. That being said, the work and artistry put into handle are expert; i does look beautiful.
