This was seriously the best tutorial I have found on how to take apart a Dyson dc40. My cats spilled. Container of cocoa all over the pantry. After cleaning it up with my Dyson, about a month later I smell a dirty cocoa smell. I completely cleaned my dc40 using this video and now no more smell. Thank you so much for this and your help

Great video! I have never been able to really get the cyclone clean in the decade my DC42 has been going. So glad I saw this video.

Yet another fantastic video of yours, very in-depth, straight to the chase, no filler, no details left out, another 100/10, Thank you again for the great content, now my machines are clean enough to eat out/off of inside and out!!! (Snagged both of my Dyson's at a thrift store, paid $3 a piece for them, one had a loose connection at the power switch and the other one had coffee or soda spilled down the front of it and had gotten into the switch and goobered up the power switch contacts, cleaned them up and they both work like a clock)

very helpful. cleaned many times but never took apart cone assembly. instead always just filled and rinsed multiple times. did that this time before tearing apart and my rising method seems fairly effective but you never get to scrub parts free of everything so took opportunity with everything exposed. wasn't able to remove screen assembly as mine seems fused and is hard plastic on ring that you used multiple wedges to tear off. didn't want to risk breaking it. i used large plastic pretty tools instead of screwdriver to pry spray the cones where you bent the plastic preventing any visible damage. (you asked for alternatives). I avoided my wife throwing the vacuum out so calling this a $400 win using only 2 hours of my time. thank you.

Great content - thanks very much for taking the time to put this together. The detail proved invaluable! - very much appreciated. I found the very best, most effective and lowest effort way of cleaning the components was to ask me wife to do it.

The way Dyson instructs and allows the consumer to clean the filters but not easily take off those clips around the Cyclones it's like Dyson is saying clean it but don't clean it too well. At some point they want to make sure that this can't be cleaned well enough that you wouldn't have to buy another one years down the road.
@richardsvacuumcenter2 жыл бұрын
They claim you should never need to do this but I’ve seen so many in my days of servicing vacuums that smell so bad it’s hard to say that to people.
@JS-fb6ww2 жыл бұрын
@@richardsvacuumcenter after dozens upon dozens or even hundreds of vacuuming sessions every particle of dust that goes through one of those Cyclone Chambers causes micro abrasion on the wall of the chamber itself. Over time those abrasions allow for dust to collect more easily. It's inevitable that these will acquire more dust as time progresses and smell worse and worse to the point where they need to be serviced in this fashion.

When I stripped down my DC40, I used a set of plastic car trim removal tools on the clips and gaskets instead of a flat head screwdriver.

Thanks! That's a great idea! I'll look to get some of those. Part of the trick with youtube is if you use too many specialized tools that most people don't have you'll end up alienating your audience so I do try to help people do it with basic tools most people have. :)

I cleaned canister by spraying inside with a hose. Now it smells like mold and mildew so bad it makes you gag. Looks like I’m going to have to follow your awesome video to attempt to get smell to go away. I have feeling I’ll end up breaking something but I’ll try.

Yes this is why taking it apart is important for proper cleaning. In order for mold not to form inside all the parts need to be able to dry

How did you clean all those parts? Dishwasher or manually scrubbing in a sink?

Manually scrub with an assortment of different brushes.

Hi, I did find an easier way to take off the upper cyclone section. Using a 3/8" wide flat metal spudger (as used for phone disassembly) prise off using this tool off to one side of recessed retaining each clip. The clips come undone a lot easier without distorting the upper edge. Also realised after using this method I think it would be even easier to release the clip nearest the red door lever first. Either way it came apart relatively easy with no damage. Hope this helps?

I must have either an older or more updated version of this model vacuum. The little white tabs, I just can't pry the rim off of them, screwdriver or no, elbow grease or no. Fucking dyson. They could very easily allow this entire vacuum assembly be disassembled and cleaned for the consumer but they only allow the filters to be cleaned periodically just so the vacuum will work long enough that it doesn't seem like a piece of shit but not long enough that five years down the road you're not forced to buy another one. Those engineers at Dyson are very cunning clever

Really excellent quality video, thanks. What do you exactly use/do to wash all the parts? I'm particularly thinking of what will best take any nasty smells away whilst not damaging the gaskets. Thanks again.
@richardsvacuumcenter4 жыл бұрын
Primarily soap dish soap and water. I use special tools like small paint brushes, bottle brushes, tooth brushes to get the cracks and crevices so that it is as clean as possible. Just be sure everything is perfectly dry before reassembly! :)

@@richardsvacuumcenter Thanks for your reply. Perfect, I'll use that method for cleaning the cyclone parts

Their vacuums are made of such flimsy thin plastics now. I remember the days of the DC01. DC02, DC03. DC04 & DC05 that had thick clear bins that were strong and nothing would snap off those bins. Dyson have never been very durable and always broke, but they did use much thicker mould before. Now just sounds and feels like cheap plastic toys.

Best way to split the cyclone instead of a screwdriver use a Stanley blade I find the the small side is just perfect you just have to watch you don't cut yourself on the blade do it with you sharp side faceing you or it might cut into the plastic let me know how you get on
