The thing to do is to not completely disassemble the piston mechanism. Just lock the piece in place with the wrench so it goes back exactly the same way it was removed. Happy disassembly!

Fun and helpful video. I noticed, after cleaning out my TWSBI eco for the first time and then adding new ink, that the knob of my pen is loose. I can't remember, but should the cap be able to sit securely on the knob? Because the knob is loose, the cap won't fit on the end when I'm writing. I can't use the wrench to adjust the knob while I still have ink inside the pen, can I?

Yeah, thank you for that. I thought I had broken mine, the top cap was way too high and would just fall off, now I realise I was not assembling it correctly. The instruction photos don't really explain that necessary step of extending the rod.

The re-assembly is definitely the trickier part. Seems worse with their Diamond 580 (if that's even possible). Oh I've used such words... 🤬😂

Sorry, but you got it wrong. The piston was too far inside the cap-nut, and you can't fill it full of ink. When re-assembling the TWSBI Eco, screw the cap-nut with the piston-nut inside the cap-nut onto the piston-sleeve without the piston-rod inside the piston-sleeve until the edge of the cap-nut is just around 2mm from the edge of the end of the slot that the wrench fits into. Then hold what you have and put the piston-rod into the sleeve and twist the cap-nut about a half turn or so, so that the piston-rod is captured by the piston-nut inside the sleeve and the wrench still fits without letting the sleeve move any. Now, keep everything from moving and slide the piston and everything into the pen body. With the wrench still on the sleeve, screw the piston-sleeve all the way into the pen body and snug it up. It should look and work perfect now, and the piston head should go all the way back so that you can fill it full of ink and the cap-nut won't come loose.

Just use the wrench properly to lock the position when disassembling and then easy reassembly. Don’t take it apart like he does. This feels more like how NOT to disassemble a twsbi.

Ardent follower of your channel, but this is a poorly done video. We have code in scientific research “although one spends months of work on a project, don’t try to publish that doesn’t provide added value to the community”. Yes, I have an Eco, 580 and a Classic. ✌.

Thanks for the feedback! Admittedly, this started out more as a fun, team vlog type video and I decided to add the "tutorial" part later on - maybe I could have titled the video differently to reflect this. Our friends at JetPens do have a really helpful tutorial on their channel, which we usually refer people to when they're having trouble with assembling their Eco's. Hope the video was still fun to watch! :) -May

Assembly is a real pain in the ass. You have to maintain 0.5 cm distance between piston and main unit and then inert in the barrel. Then use spanner to tighten.
