Love your videos! Has truly inspired me to tackle my 68 13’ Whaler restoration myself! Thank you!

Been learning a lot from your videos. I have a 1973, 13ft Boston whaler. I also started on the inside first. Repaired all the holes, ground out all (or most) of the spider cracks (which there were a lot!) and completed fairing compounding. Will begin sanding next week. I followed all your tips in your previous videos and so far so good! Once I get the inside primed, I'll flip it and start on the bottom. Can't wait till Part 10. Please let us know when you publish it.

I can't wait for 10 either lol. I've got a start on the hull and strengthened some soft spot. Need to sand those areas down and glass. Then I'll fair and paint. Weather's been more of a problem then anything else. Hopefully will warm up soon here in NC so I can get going!

@@ExtremeDIYGuy Well hello neighbor! Weather's been rough here in SC at times. I was able to move my boat into my workshop for the fairing and primer. Can you use the same primer as on the inside? Also what type of paint are you planning to use? I heard 2 part epoxy is good but I wonder about the inconvenience to mix it.
@ExtremeDIYGuy4 жыл бұрын
I'm jealous. My workshop is crammed with tools lol. I have to work the boat outside. For the hull, I plan on using two part epoxy primer and then two part polyurethane. I want to make the hull finish as durable as possible!
@bcain58234 жыл бұрын
@@ExtremeDIYGuy Finally finished priming the inside. Flipped the boat per your instructions and it worked like a charm. I did have to put an extra support under the front board but it's all good. Have all the major cracks and repairs filled with epoxy/silica and waiting for that to cure. I contacted TotalBoat about the best primer/paint to use on the hull. The tech said I could use the Topside primer and topside paint if it won't be in the water more than a day. I live on a small watershed freshwater lake so I think this will work. What color of paint are you planning to use on the hull?

@@bcain5823 Nice! I'm at the same stage. Currently patching and sealing all the holes in the transom. It's amazing how many holes people will put in a transom over the years! I'm also in progress in reinforcing some weak areas with epoxy/glass. THe final coats will be an off white as close to a Whaler white as I can get.

Just found your channel. Got a 68 BW13 same as yours. Needs fiberglass repair and a restoration. Not sure how far I want to go or even if I should begin the work. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. Mine needs repair at the front and was a crabbing boat on the Intercoastal waterway on Oak Island NC all its life
@hpgdawnpatrol94564 жыл бұрын
Sir mine probably needs a new trailer. Where can I get one and is there one you recommend?
@ExtremeDIYGuy4 жыл бұрын
I would go for used one, stay away from the coast though. If you're in NC Raleigh craigslist or FB might be your best bet. But before you do that, see if your trailer is salveagable.

Any progress since this? I’m about to start getting back to mine this weekend. Finally warming up enough that I can start tackling the inside.
@ExtremeDIYGuy4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've got the transom ready for paint and am currently working on the hull. I have tons of footage but am now just starting to piece together what I've done for the transom. Weather has been tricky. I've been hesitant to put any epoxy resin or fairing compound when temps are going to be below 50. These videos will be a bit funny though, They've been filmed over the last few months as work has progressed and you may see me in a coat one segment and in shorts the next. That's NC weather for you lol. I hope to have the next video up in the next week or two.

I did my 18” Alumacraft off the trailer the same way. Except I use 2 land scape timbers and 4x4 blocks. That’s the easiest way to do it...
@ExtremeDIYGuy4 жыл бұрын
I probably should have used 4x4 or landscape timbers. But so far the 2x4's are holding up!

Just finished painting the hull of my 13. Trying to figure out a way to get it flipped and back on the trailer by myself. Haven’t figured it out yet 😅

@@ExtremeDIYGuy I figured as much. My most reliable neighbor just got back from a 3-week vacation so I may bug him once hes settles back in. 😅

I did mine by myself without any vehicle.. it wasn’t fun lol , once everything was out of the boat I rolled it into the grass and put down a few traps and just let it slide off . Then I flipped it over back on to the trailer and repainted it.. what a pain in the ass
@ExtremeDIYGuy4 жыл бұрын
Steven, Definitely a pain in the ass! But it was a lot easier with the trailer and a helper!

Extreme DIY I had to hand sand the anchor locker and behind the splash well. Very stressful lol , well I’m not laying down any primer till everything is perfectly smooth

I'm still working on it. I got the transom ready for paint and am working on the hull. It had some serious damage so I'm taking my time repairing it. There will be a video on that soon. There will also be videos on finishing the wood interior, rigging etc. Hopefully will get it done my end of May.
