I usually wait a little bit longer before cutting off the foliage. Perennials use their foliage to create sugars which they store in their roots over the winter. When they are finished storing, the leaves brown and the plant goes into dormancy. This is the time I like to cut back the leaves and divide. If the leaves don't get cut back, it doesn't matter as they can be cleaned up in the Spring as well. The plant can also be divided in the Spring as daylilies are amazingly forgiving plants. If the plant looks shaggy and raggedy in the Fall, I just trim it into a neater looking plant until the leaves begin to turn brown indicating it is going dormant. Thanks for your video.

Thank you, so easy! This is only Oct and I was worried about them drying out because we haven’t had much rain. I guess I’ll leave them alone. I usually clean them out after the first freeze.

Great job! With so much to do in the spring, it's a great idea to take care of these types of tasks now. Blessings...

It really does help to have as much done in the fall as you can - we all have so much to plant and grow in the spring!

What's that grassy plant to your right? Huge!

Those are fountain grasses and get about 6 to 8 feet tall.
