I know it is better to use public transport but unfortunately our house is far from stations . so I almost should use my own car. although public transportation like subway or BRT are too crowded and people are nervous in so I prefer not to use them .also I might get stuck in rush hours in traffic . so i always try to change my get around time .i bought second hand car but it doesn't work a lot it has broken down just one time since i have got it.in far distance travel i would rather fly not only do i believe that it is fast but also i enjoy flying. one of my childhood dreams was have a personal plane.:-)))))))

I live in a small city in Vietnam where there are a lot of public transport such as motorbikes, cars, buses,... They help people save time in commuting over long distances and help people be more active in daily life. But they cause many disadvantages such as global warming, environmental pollution and traffic congestion, etc. Therefore, we need to know how to use them properly.

I usually use public transport so I will get the tram or sometimes buses. I really like the public transport in my area b/c it's easily to get for work or Sch. I have a bicycle & I enjoy ridding my bicycle. Sometimes I use to go gym or to college. Where I study is not that far away. My bike helps me keep my body fit. For long distance I use a train or an airplane. I also take the bus to go church but most of the time is the buses came late at the weekend. Therefore, having ur own car is more better inorder to save ur time & reach ur destination on time. Thanks alot in advance! I enjoyed Ur lecture! Your lessons are considerable & useful as usual. let me know if my writing has any mistakes. Best wishes, Fache!

Hi, I live in Ho Chi Minh city - the biggest city of Viet Nam. I mostly ride the motorbike. Sometimes I either take a bus or taxi. Riding motorbike has lots of advantages: it's the fastest way to get my destination, and I don't worry too much about parking. But there are also some disadvantages like: there is a lot of noise when I ride and I can get stuck in traffic when having heavy rain.

I usually get around our city with my husband and child in our car. When I go somewhere alone I use public transport because I don't have a driving licence. However the system of public transport is not very convenient in our city. It is easy to get to the city centre but you have to wait for an hour for a bus which goes to certain districts. In addition, buses run from the city centre to the place where I live until 10 pm. Before we bought a car we used to take a taxi when we were returning from the theatre. Also there are a lot of traffic jams in our city which can be avoided by taking a different road by car. So I'm going ta study at a driving school and pass my driving test. There are a lot of places where I walk, for example, à supermarket, parks and the seaside. And the school where I work is very close so I can walk in twenty minutes.

Here is my answer for your question : I have lived in a big city so I mostly take a bus to go to wherever I want.In every morning, I walk to Ben thanh bus stop and take number 15. It takes me 45 minutes to go school. When I go by bus, I will be not worried to be stuck in traffic and the weather doesn't bother me too.Second, bus is cheaper than any means of transport. Futhermore, using bus is more environmentally- friendly. When I'm in the bus I have time to read books and admire the view from the window.

Transport and driving I live in a small city. People usually drive their own cars or use public transportation to get around. There aren't so many options to choose from since my city is not big, but we have motorcycles, buses, and shared taxis. Some people even cycle or walk when the places they have to go aren't too far. As for my family, most of them have cars or motorcycles. My father uses his car, which is a secon-hand one. A particular thing about my father's car is that runs on petrol and gas. I don't have a car yet, but if I have one it would be a Volkswagen Beetle Convertible.

My house is located in Dong Anh District, which is in the suburbs of Hanoi. If you live in the city centre, you can use buses. There are several choices for you such as bus number 61, 53A or 46. You should take the number 61 or 53A because it's quite near my house. When you come to Tien Duong commune, go through 6 stops and then get off the bus. Finally, after walking about 100 meters, you arrive at my house.

In Vietnam, there are 4 domestic airlines including Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific, Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways. About 7 years ago, I experienced a flight to Da Nang city on a Vietnam Airlines plane. It was a good flight since my seat had lots of legrooms and an air stewardess gave me a blanket so that I could sleep comfortably. That's why I have a good impression of this airline.

Hi. Oxford Online English teachers! I am from Ha Noi. Here I am daily going to work by motobike the most popular transportation in our big cities. It makes me get some disadvantages like noise, dangerous, bad air from other cars and motors, beside it is very harmful to the environment but in fact, the traffic is so terrible at the rush hour, the streets are so small then it can take for hours to get to my company especially use a bus. ( The only one kind of public transport in my city)Even though the bus is more cheap and safer than ride own moto. Otherwise the buses also come late regularly so that I can't go to work on time. The city's leader try to built more public transport ways like metro or BRT bus, ( presedence ways to run) but they are under building so now most of citiers have no choice except motobike.

Hi. Im Nghi from Vietnam. I either ride a motorbike or cycle to get around my city. Sometimes i use a taxi to go to the party. Here in my city, there are not much public transport. We only have rails, buses and taxis. Taking a bus is more cheaper than a taxi. Many students often use buses to go to school. The disadvantage of using bus is that it take more time to change buses and you have to walk quite far to the bus stop. In addition, it is crowed during rush hour. There are buses every 30 minutes or so. Normally you have to wait 20 minutes or more. There are always traffic jams in my city , so the fastest way to travel around the city is riding a motorbike.

I always use a motorbike to go around because I am living in downtown Hanoi, where the traffic jam happens regulary. Using the motorbike helps me can get rid of congestions easily and quickly. I reckon that there are a lot of advantages of using private vehicles. They give users more freedom to travel, and they can arrange their schedule actively. Besides, when people choose the vehicle by their own like cars and motorbikes then it will encourages the mechanical industry. As the result, the employment will be created more. However, Travelling by private vehicles is harmful for environment. The more private vehicles people use the more toxic gases will be released to air like carbon dioxide. Furthermore, the private means of transport lead to traffic jam become more seriously due to having too much vehicle in roads.

Hello, my name is Violet, I live in Lima and I think that cycle is the best form of get around most places, because usually in my city everywhere is crowded, and for me pay for a bus is expensive, here there traffic jams everywhere, since we only have two train lines, equally cycle is healthy, nevertheless is insecure, you cannot trust the traffic rules, is a result of the low quality of drivers trained for public transportation, in my country traffic accidents are frequent, but this not just is bad for people who use a bike, this problem affects everyone peruvian that use everything others means of transportation or have family members who use them.

I sold my car in order to make ends meet, it was faster than the public transportation in my area; but more expensive so currently I take the bus regularly. The advantages in taking the bus are, it is reliable, effective, and it gives two hours to return to my destination without paying another fare. Another very good advantage in taking the bus is that if something happens for any reason with the bus, passengers are being transferred onto another bus, unlike ones car that has to be towed away. One can also take a taxi, which is more expensive and when I call a taxi, I usually give a tip to the driver as opposed to the bus where one just pay a fare and return to the bus station in two hours to continue using the same bus ticket. Otherwise you have to pay another fare.

Thanks for sharing your response. You did a nice job! Here are a few corrections: 1) '...for any reason with the bus, passengers are transferred onto another bus...' not, '...for any reason with the bus, passengers are being transferred onto another bus...'. 2) '...unlike one's car that has to...' not, 'ones'. 3) '...where one just pays a fare...' not, 'pay'. Hope this helps you!

@@Oxfordonlineenglish1 - Thank you for your response professor. I am aware that I need to practice my tenses and plurals (countable and uncountable) more regularly; even though I have studied the rules. I need to speak more often than just read so I am reading along with stories with subtitles in English. One of my biggest problems is my fear of being ridiculed since I have experienced it a lot so I do not practice when speaking to people. Before I take any exams, I need to practice for at least another year; so do you have any teaching drills regarding the tenses and plurals that I can practice on a daily basis? I must say I love the British accent and I wish I were living there to master the English Language. I am interested in formal English before I pursue the native tongue. Thanks for all your lessons!

I live in a small town so the best way to move around is riding a bicycle or walking. There isn’t a metro but there are many bus lines. I use to drive a lot because I prefer to be independent to leave when I want and also because I have two children to bring in different places sometimes.

Nice response, Maria! Here are a few suggestions for you: 1) '...move around is by riding a bicycle...' not, '...move around is riding a bicycle...' 2) 'I usually drive a lot...' not, 'use to'. 3) '...to bring to different places,' not, 'in'. Hope this helps you!

I use different kinds of public transport to get around my hometown; depending on the weather, availability of the cab service, budget and luggage. I like to travel by my own car, its much safer and comfortable. Sometimes, when I am afraid of traffic jams, especially during political and religious rallies then I prefer to take the metro.

Thanks for sharing a great response, Beenish. Here are a few suggestions for you: 1) '...own car because it's much safer...' not, '...own car, its much safer...'. 2) '...during political and religious rallies, I prefer to...' not, 'then I prefer to'. Hope this is useful for you!

I love fly with Sky Airline. They are a budget airline but their service is really good and makes me feel respected. The seats are not tight as other budget airline, plus, they have lot of legroom. What I love the most is that their weight limitation for hand luggage is ten kilos, It is really suitable for my demand.

Thanks for sharing another good answer, Diana. Here are some tips: 1) 'I love flying,' not, 'fly'. 2) '...are not as tight as other...' not, '...are not tight as other...'. 3) '...other budget airlines,' not, 'airline'. Hope this helps you!

At 4:04 you said I'am going somewhere. Is it right? Generally To go is used with TO, exclude GO HOME. Is it another exclusion?
@Oxfordonlineenglish15 жыл бұрын
Hi Arman, good question! With 'somewhere,' 'nowhere', 'anywhere', etc, we do not use 'to'.

Hi OOE I live in HCM city in Viet Nam. Every day I travel to work by motorbike at 2pm and got home until 9pm. There is little traffic jam at that time, so I really dont feel stressed when I use traffic. I rarely use public transportations 'cos I could not bear the smell inside them. Its really awful and makes me feel sick. Riding motorbikes is freer but tired and the disadvantage is it makes the air and environment more and more polluted. I am supper glad if u could spend some time correcting my writing. Thank you LOL
