Recently had a buddy move and he offered me his Nile Monitor. I found this strategy has been helping out for him. He’s still very skittish of being approached, but is very interactive after he realizes you are no harm. The past 2 weeks of doing the tub method has shown lots of improvement, thank you for making this video!! It’s helped me and Big Fufu a lot!

I sort of tamed the skinks that live around my house. Some of them are still pretty skittish but I have a couple that will take mealworms from my hand. They're mostly 5 lined skinks and there are a couple of Broadhead skinks that stop by to eat too.

Quince Monitor nails are a crazy sharp. Mine tears my hands up. Use to be more tame when it was in its smaller enclosure. But also got handled more.

If your monitor is tame enough, could you trim their nails enough to lessen the pain?

I believe with the older individuals it's not that they are slower to learn it's that they have more history to overcome by learning that things are OK and safe. My young Savannahs adapted very quickly (weeks) while my year-old individual took MONTHS of work to get basic non stressful handling.

I got an 8x5x6 outdoor enclosure, with 10 inch deep substrate(organic top soil, compost, and cypress mulch), also has uvb and live plants. How much long and deep of a tub/pond does an adult mangrove monitor need in this enclosure?

Do you have anything for skittish lizards? This video is absolutely great, but I feel with my water dragon I am still working on even being tolerated in the same room, let alone getting close with feeding tongs or touching him. Is it better to keep at a distance until he approaches me? He is in a huge enclosure, because he escaped his small temp. area that I had built inside of the large space. So if I get too close (ie feeding him) he will just flit under a rock or bush and ogle me from there. I wonder if I ruin the process everytime I get close. But I do need to feed him and had to install a second UVB at some point, because he wasn't basking under the other one.

My baby was tame and awesome from day one. He is also a farm raised baby. He is now 5 years old, big. Still sweet. Too many water monitors are being bred, and sold at rediculas prices, and being sold to folks that are not prepared or will never be prepared to house these massive lizards. That must be a wild caught baby, the way he is pooping, and trying to flee.

I have a baby savannah monitor that I swear hates me and I'm just about tired of him too. Taming is not easy at all. And I don't want to keep feeding him and reinforcing bad habits. I may rehome it soon.

You're the only person I know that has a quince monitor, I hope you can help me with this. My Quince monitor has strange bumps all over his back. They look to be swollen bumps. But it is normal can it heal on its own? Or should I take this serious.

If he's not eating and sluggish aswell he likely has metabolic bone disease... you don't need his help to know this, are you supplying him with good amounts of uvb? Are you dusting his food with calcium supplement? Is he getting exercise? These things are important

Also next time you have a question like this ask people on reddit or discord and not here, I feel like the chance of my commenting to your comment on a video that's months old is close to non, also if he has bumps take them to a herp vet!!

So should I have a heat pad going if a baby hides a lot. Maybe 10- 11 I see the savanna out and basking but once I walk by it goes to hide, and its repeat all day. It eats so I'm not worried about that. Its literally like 5 inches.
