Thank you, Karie-Lee! You are a great tap dance teacher. I attended a Tap Dance class at a local Community College about 20 years ago, and now watching your video brings back my interest in Tap Dance again. You are such a graceful tap dance teacher. Thanks!

Thank you, I have to say that as an adult beginner in tap and an ex-horse rider, I really appreciate your explanation. I'm just used to think about my body and the work with weight a lot and this kind of explanation is really something I see as very useful.

Your instructional videos are very helpful. You really break down the basics and the mechanics, whereas many of these videos rush through, but you really take your time. Thank you, from New Zealand.

Thank you so much! I have taught a lot of new tappers, so I know that every time I ask, "Ready to move on? Or do you want to do it one more time..." Students always say, "One more time!" :) Thanks for watching from New Zealand!

How about the quadruple time step. You were almost there! I am using your videos to compose my lessons for senior tappers. I love how you break it all down and especially how you insert the right rhythm for the time step. 1:50

Thank you, you’re a lifesaver ! 😍❤️ I have an audition to study in a college that I have to perform the three timesteps of tap dance, and I just had one class of tap dance in my life, and didn’t know anything about timesteps, at least I didn’t remember, and now I’m doing it after your help with this video ! Thank you so much Karie-Lee ! ❤️❤️❤️

A suggestion. Could you demonstrate what the finished step looks like before you start breaking down. That way we have a goal to reach instead of wondering what the final step looks like.

hi, thanks for the vifeo! what are you using as a tap board?
@stillkickingwithkarie-lee6657
@stillkickingwithkarie-lee6657 Ай бұрын
Hi! It’s just a sheet of plywood with a sheet of thinner particle board laid over the top of it, not connected in any way. It works for me because of being on top of carpet. As a tip, when not in use I keep 10 lb weights on the corners of the board to keep it flat. Without weights, plywood wants to warp, which is not ideal for tapping. Thanks for watching! 😁

I love to tap. I was in Newsies and in a group I can pick up on steps by sound but the timestep continues to elude me and I have no idea why it just doesn’t click. Which sucks because in this age of virtual auditions I find myself skipping the tap combos because I can’t do a basic timestep. Any advice? I’ve never felt as musically inadequate as I do when attempting timesteps.

Hi Alex! The theme step rhythm is a little complicated which is what makes it so interesting, but super challenging also! What My teacher used to do for me was scat the rhythms which would help me process complicated steps. In other words you speak the rhythm in random syllables (“ya DUMP, da de da de da da ya DUMP, da de da de da”). AND you can try patting the rhythm with your hands cause they’re easier to coordinate and no weight shifting - but pat it out on your legs - it helps enforce the rhythm into your body. Most importantly give yourself time. Slow it way down and keep at it - it will feel so good when it finally clicks. Don’t give up!! Let me know how it goes
