Awe...those frigid days chasing fish, I love it when it is miserable conditions just makes the success so much more gratifying! Great show bro and Todd is a stud!

Do you reckon this vertical jigging setup and technique would be effective for trophy browns as well?

Why lead line and not riggers for Trolling? Just didn't have them on board?

The lead core line gives a different presentation than the downriggers, even with a long setback. The theory is that the lead core line dragging along the bottom gets the attention of the fish and they come investigate. However...fishing 600' of line behind the boat is very difficult if there are any other boats around!

@@DayOneOutdoors Not familiar with lead core at all, so 600' back and literally dragging several 100 on the bottom ? U-20 floating up off the bottom ? sorry for the unfamiliarity

That is correct! We have found that dragging excess line along the mud bottom seems to bring more biters to the flatfish! I would not suggest this on rocky or snaggy bottoms

What reel are you running that leadcore on? I'm assuming that's a 20 color spool?

It is a Daiwa Saltist 30. Way overkill for these fish but need the line capacity for 600' of leadcore!

Do you ever give spoons or flutter jigs a shot? Acme Kastmasters and Colt Snipers are sometimes the ticket here in Ontario. Jigging Raps are often deadly as well. Also, when I use leadcore out here I use the Sufix Advanced because it gets about 8’ of depth per colour. I only use one spool with a spool of braid backing. Our water is super clear though (over 30’ vis) so in 120’, getting down to 80’ is good enough.

I will have to try a couple of those! The best jig we have found here on this lake is a steel shad. I've tried tubes, slow pitch jigs, heavy spoons...and many others. These fish definitely act different from other Lake Trout fisheries we have talked with other anglers about.
