Remember if you're not replacing all the shingles where your tarp is going, don't nail through your shingles otherwise you're just creating more holes for water to get in. Nail the tarp UNDER the shingles you lift up and not in a seam. Nail a 2x4 or something similar to the bottom of the tarp to weigh it down. Temporary fix and keeps holes to fix to a minimum.
@6XXBANSHEEXX82 жыл бұрын
True, for sure, but not always possible. Upon removal, be sure to tar every hole made.

Yeah if you have a small area like in this video, I recommend just replacing the shingle. Especially if the rest of the roof is in good condition.

@@hailorhighwaterroofing By tarping just that one area, you’re admitting that the rest of roof doesn’t need it because it’s not leaking. I mean, it’s great for you. Gives you a lot of business. But it seems like a big waste of resources when you can just replace whatever is damaged and the roof will be good for many more years. But I guess that’s the way they do it and the insurance racket business, so why should I question it? I wouldn’t mind lower insurance rates.

What about tarping on a tar and gravel roof. We have a flat section of our roof that has to be replaced in the spring, but not possible for now. Can it be tarped similarly or does it have to be that seal they suggest? Leak is small but want to prevent further damage or moisture incoming.

Hey man, I have to re-shingle one side of the home due to west wind. Currently have a 20x40 tarp on the roof thats been good for the past 2 months. Since it's May now, rainy season is slowly going away. My question is, can you remove the shingles little at a time due to a sunny day one day and rainy the next?
@qstrian3 жыл бұрын
Appears to work well on newer roofs where shingles remain pliable. Otherwise, overlay the tarp using one by twos to extend the tarp over the damaged surface. The reason that some roofers overlay from the ridge is that the repair should extend the full length of the ridge.

Overall you did a pretty good job but if there’s a heavy continuous down pour this is not water proof. One mistake you made is where you installed the tarp under the shingles where those two shingles meet in the middle you did not put the tarp all the way up under that next shingle up. So where those two shingles meet there’s a hole above that tarp. Other than that good explanation and trying to do what’s best for the client.
