@kimk53329 жыл бұрын
+Lily Fultz It depends on what type of cheesecloth you can get in your area. I'm in Canada, and the cheesecloth I've found has a very loose weave so the tea leaves would go right through it. As +Handmade by Diana suggested, tea bags would work fine as well. Any fabric that will allow the liquid to go through but stop the tea leaves. A fine strainer would also work. Hope this helps!
@StampinStuff0111 жыл бұрын
A couple people have already asked this in the comments below. You will need to test it and see what works best but maybe try dying it and crinkling it then use an iron to flatten it back out so it runs through the printer. That will make it flat but you will still have an aged crinkle look.
@ManiacalSurgeon7 жыл бұрын
Hey, this is a very informative video! I was wondering if you could send the paper through a printer to be printed on and what the effects of the tea did to the inking process. Would you have to print it off first then do the tea procedure or do you soak the paper then print it? Thank you!!

I am putting the paper first then poring tea over it. This prevents bubles. Also if you pour tea in between you can put as much as paper you want on top of the others. Putting things with a nice smell while tea brews is a good way to make scented papers. I sometimes hang the papers to cloth line to dry, but when i soak too much paper in tea, i just lay them to our balcony floor. I need lots of paper since i make notebooks. And i mostly use regular a4 paper.

You may need to experiment but I expect so. Just don't scrunch it while it is wet or if you do, run over it with an iron to flatten it out again but still leave the lines where the scrunches used to be.
@tess811010 жыл бұрын
Actually Muslin isn't used in cooking that would be cheesecloth and its a totally different fabric, cheesecloth is a cotton loosely woven fabric used for draining cheeses and straining things in cooking and also for wiping down cars. You cannot make garments from cheesecloth it is like a gauze bandage only bigger. Muslin is a tightly woven cotton fabric that was in the old days know as "sheeting". Muslin was the common peoples cloth of choice for garments and bedding. It was most often kept in its natural pale beige state and you can sometimes see dark brown flecks in the cloth an bumps from the weaving.
@StampinStuff0110 жыл бұрын
Muslin is what we call it in Australia. Cheesecloth in Australia is tightly woven and wouldn't work for this.

no need to soak it, Use teabgas, make your tea with tea bags leave to brew until just warm, then ring out tea bag and wipe over the paper until covered turn over and repeat, use a peg to hang on a string line to dry or use a heat gun or hairdryer Look more medieval if you tear down each side to make the edge uneven, before you start. If making for a journal, you could dye all pages then put together and cut each edge with bread knifen but be careful you dont cut yourelf. UK tea may be stronger than elswhere. This method seems to leave the pages crinkly with out ctumbling them first

@StampinStuff0111 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how this would go Natalia because the pages are likely to stick together and stick. If I put too many pieces in one bowl and there isn't space between each sheet it ends up not dying or leaving blank spots.
@TheLakingc6 жыл бұрын
StampinStuff01 i saw another video where she slowly added each sheet, then more brewed tea then more paper until she had a roaster full. She dried hers on cookie sheets in the oven, low temp a few minutes. Then she ironed them! Sounds like a day's project, but then it is done. It can be done, just carefully.

I have successfully used tea to dye fabric, but not paper. What do you mean by printer paper. Is it the same as copy paper? As I am from England I wondered if it is just a case of terminology, or is there a difference in the thickness. I like the screwed-up effect and think it would also look good once inked over to pick up another colour. Thank you for sharing. x

Can you dye more than one sheet at a time, as in popping 5 sheets into the tea all at once?
@lucie9834 жыл бұрын
Yes, if your surface is larger you can. As long as you dont put the sheets over one another, because it'll be really difficult to get them out without ripping them if they're stuck together :). Put them in a larger container maybe so that you can put them next to each other without worrying about them touching each other ❤🦋
@sergiugabriel39967 жыл бұрын
That is printer paper. Which is very very thin. I am using drawing paper, about 2.5-3 printer paper sheets thick. What should I expect? I understand that with dyeing comes expanding so it will get thicker, right?

I made a lot of this full 500 sheets pack ( yes my back is in pain) and the paper of course won't dry it's been 24 hours...I got tired and put it in the oven all was ok but my neighbour has a habit of being a slammer ..slamming doors all hours asked them to stop. I got bored of waiting for paper to dry put in oven some edges burnt had to remove it.yet it gave 3 sheets a nice burnt edged look so not so unhappy. is there another way of drying them quicker? it's taking forever for 500 sheets. wondering will they ever dry out.

@gorillagaming3959 жыл бұрын
+Dolores J. Rush no i don't think so I'm about to try it now.
@zynzane96808 жыл бұрын
I agree Dolores, there is a reason scrapbook papers are acid-free, I wouldn't put precious photos or the only copy of a photo on it, but I think this kind of paper is largely used in "junk journals" which use a lot of non-photosafe papers and are not meant for archival purposes. For scrapbook albums, I would only use in an area not touching the photo. But with all the scrapbook paper that is already aged-looking, I don't see why anyone would need to dye their own! Also there are stains, inks, chalks, etc to use on scrapbook paper and embellishments that are already photo-safe.

If i wanted to print something out onto these pages. Would I print it out first THEN do the Tea Dying? Or do I Tea Dye the paper THEN print something out on the paper? (Ofc, I'm going to be using a printer)
@TheLou628 жыл бұрын
You could do either, but printing first is the best way to go. Trying to feed this paper through a printer is pretty tough, especially if it's crinkled. Oh, and use a LASER printer. Inkjet will smear the second a speck of water touches it.
@magnoliasouth8 жыл бұрын
I'm with Connie and I think (or rather know) printer ink will smear. Standard printer ink, that is. I know there are specialty types out there that I can't even begin to remember what they do, but I've had printer ink smear quite easily. The other problem you'll have is that if wait until after wrinkling, and depending on your printer, it may not print as nicely as you would hope. Here's what I would do... Stain it first, but without the wrinkles, just let it lay flat to dry. Print whatever it is you want and let it set for a day or so and I would even use a hair dryer (or what did she call it in the video? a heat gun or something?) to set the ink well (don't let it get overly hot, just enough to make it desert like, dry and hot). If you have only printed on one side, then face the ink down and slightly and carefully dampen the paper by placing a damp (NOT wet) cloth right on top of it for a few seconds. If it's double sided, you'll simply have to risk it but again, only damp and not wet. Now carefully wrinkle it, without rubbing it together too much; just press it together. I'm willing to bet that this will do exactly what you want.
@smallsneakers700010 жыл бұрын
