We adopted a 2 1/2 yr old pit mix female in July 2022. She went outside to "get busy" for months. Until it rained. Then she was peeing on the dining/living room carpet. Or she'd pee and poop in the kitchen next to the doggy door flap. It would take several days before she'd go outside again. I locked her outside for a few hours trying to show her the ground was dry. Then I sat out on the deck and loved on all the dogs trying to get her to come out and join the fun. I tried praise and treats. Wasn't working at first. We had a late afternoon thunderstorm a little over a week ago but this time she was back outside the next day. Not sure what triggered her to go out that soon. So far so good. Will see how she does after it rains again. Not sure what the history with her previous owners is but the animal control officer. Said he believed the people that called her in as a stray were her previous owners. Maybe us loving her but not the behavior is what made all the difference. We have no idea but are enjoying the dry floors! She's even gone next to a puppy pad and on it. Any suggestions to keep her from going inside next time it rains would be greatly appreciated.
