Good lesson for teaching and avoiding mistake early on but no info or advise on cases where mistake is already made where value is lost to name and come command. If value to commands are lost do we need start over with a new vocab? Both name and come commands have been ruined by family memebers using it abundantly..

Being of Inuit Culture, I have an adult Alaskan Malamute (Mahalamut), he is six years old. We inuits have a specific way of training this particular breed. Now!.. I have invested in a rescue puppy. She is Dane/Lab. A completely 360 degree circle than training a Mal'! Anyhow, your channel is by every mean assisting me in doing my research in order to bring "Ellie", Dane/ Lab to become an excellent friend. I do apply some of my own training as I have done with my Mal. And by the way? "Ellie" is bilingual, as she understands my inuit language. Thanks guys.

I find the value of "come" and what it means so important, as my mini female poodle loves to chase birds, squirrels and even cars. Knowing that I have something that she wants and is motivated by, makes all of the difference. It has been hard work training her as she is very active. Thank you so much for the help.

At one point, the word “come” had become over-used and lost meaning. (Terrier!!!). I was playing hide and go seek one day and placed doggo in a sit/stay command in backyard. Then went to front yard and hid behind shrubs. “Pssst” was the release word and this game was so VERY fun for my Westies that the sound “Pssst” became my new weapon for instant recall. The bonus was that it is also such a polite sound that doesn’t clue in others. It was awesome for camping and visiting because only my dogs were clued in.

Personally I like to use the dog's name as a "look at me and await instruction" command, not a recall. This helps in many situations, such as when you have multiple dogs in a pack, you can speak to individual dogs by using their name followed by a command and the other dogs understand you aren't talking to them. Or when your dog is far away and you want them to stay at a distance but pay close attention to you.

I say touch so that she touches my hand. Down the road this is awesome because then you can just put out your hand and your dog will run to boop it. I have a very soft voice so hand commands are essential at dog parks. My German shepherd picked it up instantly. My Aussie is doing well. As long as she’s not distracted along the way. But she usually remembers why she was coming to me and finishes well.

Because it is so difficult to get the other people in the household to be really consistent with COME and not using it when they shouldn't, I'm thinking it might be more realistic to use COME as the informal recall and use something like NOW as my formal recall.

My older wait for “listen” because ive allowed them to make the choice if the stay outside in fenced yard or come in. Maybe i should try “home?” instead of come because sometimes i add “i mean it!” Clap clap clap. “Now!” “Hey!” ….adding walking out to her and ….. plus i have 6 dogs…..having other people mess with the training by accident is a drag….you wouldnt want me

I usually whistle for the really important recall, you of course have to be able to whistle it so it sounds relatively alike everytime and know that you can whistle even when you are stressed. Otherwise you can buy a recall whistle (or sheepdog whistle if you know how to use those) that you always have with you and make sure no one else in the household wears out.

I do this too! My 16 week Sheltie is learning words in 3 languages, English, French and Spanish. I just use whichever one feels most natural to me , for example I always use ',’allez’ for lets go, and ven aquí for come, and ici for here, and lots of other short commands. Then my husband says other things in French because he is French. I thought the different languages would be confusing but after watching this video I can see that different words should be used for different situations and the dog doesn’t care which language it is in!🤣'

@@ericab7873 might be wrong but the 'pup pup pup' is just an informal term that can be used whenever and by anyone but 'come' is trained seperately and is the serious/formal term so there isn't a transition because they are used diferently. so 'come' is a command where as 'pup pup pup' is just used to get their attention until you have taught the 'come' command.

My dog who usually has decent recall got out of his harness on a walk(It just randomly came unclipped) and he ran to a dog that was in heat. He is fixed but he would not listen to me if my life depended on it. The dog he ran to did not react well and neither did the owner, it was a lowkey dog fight but the owner stepped it up about 100 points by yelling at me as if I was the worst person in the world for letting that happen. I was so scared for my dog and I blame myself for not having a stronger recall. Brushing up on his recall now.

I'm attempting to train our puppy to respond to "c'mere" as an informal recall. Our older dog doesn't respond to informal recall very well, so I want to try and make sure the puppy doesn't do the same. What do you do with a puppy that bites your fingers EVERY time you give them a treat. We end up having to drop the treat on the floor instead of letting him take it from our fingers. This ends up with him distracted looking for the treat on the floor. He’s been with us three weeks, he’s 12 weeks old now, and still bites our fingers, despite what we have tried to do to prevent the biting. His teeth are sharp, and his bite is getting worse (more painful) as he grows stronger.

I must have missed something, please go easy on me. Where do you demonstrate to use the come command? The way I saw it, you showed other alternates, saying to save the come command however I missed when the come command is learned. I saw you using the name. I saw you calling here here. I saw puppy puppy calls and I saw you holding back the dog then releasing. Which part teaches them the word and command to come?

I would definitely recommend some jackets and little booties for sure. The other option would be litter box training. I would also ditch their food bowl and use it for training. With their tummies being so small the number of treats you can use in a day is limited. Make being outside a fun time but also being aware small dogs, especially Chihuahuas, can't keep heat as well as those with longer coats.

My boxer used to take a long time until the first snow. Ha hated the cold. For the other 12 years he lived he was always a straight-to-business guy. If you can teach a dog to signal, and run to the door when it's time it'lloften be a short event. The downside is if you're slow to get shoes on they can go by the door. At least when they're older. For the last eight months we had to go to a schedule.

Please help! We just got a 3mo Rottweiler puppy and are trying to house train him. We use pee pads inside and are using a crate. When we take him outside he doesnt poop or pee, even if he’s had no access to the pads. At night he freaks out and pulls on the leash, often choking himself. Any advice?!

Recall Confusion: Only use the word “Come” when training. But at about 11:29, using “Here”, are you not *training* the puppy to come to you? So we end up with two words (Come & Here) to get the puppy to come to you? Describe some in-training circumstances for using the word “Come” vs “Here”. How is the puppy to distinguish hearing “Come” vs “Here”?

@aidenberzins
@aidenberzins 4 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what your puppy likes. Something small and healthy is better. But you can even ditch the bowl altogether and train them with their daily food. :) Puppies love this, and then you don't burn your wallet on treats.

What should I do if my puppy only recalls to other people other than me and my girlfriend? He is a very friendly 4 month old shiba Inu who easily would go to a stranger rather than it’s owner. I just want to create borderline as I’m afraid he could be stolen since he is so intrigued with strangers

Hi Stephen, you're exactly right, the training is the same. As Ken said though, the use of it is different. He recommends you use the "here" command as your throwaway word. (when you don't have a great reward to offer OR when you're not sure that they will come if they are too distracted )
