I never learned how to read. Not from school or from home. Both my mom and dad are illiterate. When I was younger I was constantly sick and I wasn’t going to school that often. And when I came to the US, I was left behind in school. I think thats my fault because I never said anything about it. Even till this day; I still struggle with reading. I have a 5 year old and I’m trying to help him but it’s difficult at times. But he does know his alphabet and the sounds that each letters make. Now I just have to figure out how to go from there. FYI…I love reading even though I think I’m not good at it. Other people think I’m a good reader. Finding this channel is teaching me how to help my little guy. I don’t want him to be left behind in school or feel insecure when it comes to reading. I want him to fall in love with books. So thank you so much for what you’re doing and teaching.

Yes I did this. I started 5 weeks ago teaching my just turned 4 year old letter sounds and now he is reading your decodable books. In 5 weeks! We made phonics completely play based; play doh letter cookie cutters, “word building cars” using duplo blocks that I’ve written letters and digraphs on, and car bases. We would make both real and nonsense words (and laugh!) and sound them out. We also used flash cards and hand motions/gestures for letter sounds. And boy does he love to run so we also did some physical components to letter sounds learning as well.

I read and put music on my belly when my kids was growing since the day I find out I was pregnant. When they was born, I kept teaching them. My daughter read by 1yrs old and son by 11 month.. All we did was alphabet and numbers. Phonics all the way. Sound everything. We teach them the sound first. Then we made songs.. School thank us, now my daughter in gift class and next year my son will be in gifted. They both score 4 on both city math, and reading test.

These videos are amazing and I truly believe that you are blessed in this area of the encouraging parent to know and believe they can teach and we are children’s first teachers in all actuality… I wonder if you have more of homeschooling based videos on teaching other subjects and what to teach at the different ages or “grade levels” I’m in dire need of a homeschooling community because not enough people or teachers are fully equipped or able to invest into our kids the way we as parents would like and hope for.. I have 5 kids ages 12, 11, 8, 6 and 3. I May say that my 4 older ones definitely have areas in which they are struggling and because I lack the structure and confidence to help them. If stresses me out and puts me in like a depressed state of mind battling myself in saying I know I can but can I really so it would be very helpful if you have or had homeschooling based videos…
@toddlerscanreadАй бұрын
Hey there, I only have materials for reading, not other subject areas. For reading though, it's about STAGE vs. their AGE, so my online courses teach parents how to find their child's reading stage and take it to the next level. I hope you find what you're looking for in terms of a homeschooling community.

So a question about the research on reading.. have they ever done tests to see if teaching the capital letter and the lowercase letter together (like on your flashcards) is better than teaching just CAPITALS or just lowercase? I feel like kids are so literal they may think you need both letters to make the sound
@vnessanunez3202 ай бұрын
I was once to asking this question and I found my answer and for me it was yes it is or was confusing for my tots Aka little people. This gentleman’s lessons are brilliant designed and has helped my family out a lot. (Big Thanks to him for that ) Up until three months ago it was all bliss until I started working with showing them how to practice writing and they where writing the Capital letters and the Lowercase letters down mimicking what was on the flash cards for example if I said cat they would write Ccat so I immediately switched to the homemade index cards and made 2 separate sets one for Capital letters and one for lowercase and it has helped a lot so it all worked out. Toddlers are little sponges and they absorb a lot and pick up on things quickly now the little people are no longer writing the two letters down in a word. 😊My ages are 1,3,4 &5. Enjoy your little people 😊

@toddlerscanread any ideas on how to vary the lessons once you start blending 2 sounds together? Or will those all just be on a whiteboard until toddler can blend 3 sounds and start the first decodable book? We’ve done 35 lessons now following your course since my nearly 3 year old mastered all the sounds individually, he seems to be able to say the sounds and to stretch them but he never says it at normal speed afterwards or can figure out what the new sound is. I always have to tell him the answer (and then he’ll repeat it back to me). I reward trying again and he tries a couple of times but he can’t seem to grasp the concept that the reason we’re stretching them is to help us make one short sound.

1:09 some letters have multiple sounds, the letter C doesn't always sound like a "kuh" sound 2:04 you only teach toddlers most of the 3 letter words with that consonant-vowel-consonant syllable structure 4:00 If you're trying to teach the most easiest letters in the alphabet, you could start of with the letters that toddlers mostly make when they're borned like M or B Also, if you don't sound out words, you can recognize the words depending on the front and the last letter if all of the middle letters are jebmuld up

My almost 3 year old is bilingual . English and German she speaks both languages fluently and knows a few sounds from some songs and playtime we have. The main language we speak at home is English but my husband is German and speaks German with her and I speak English with her. I want to start teaching her how to read but my problem now is that some sounds are quite different in both languages for the same letter and some are same sounding for different letters. How do I teach her effectively without confusing her?

Ultimately it's what is best for you and your family. I'm not bilingual myself, so I don't like to offer specific recommendations here.
