I love your clips. This is always my goal... make it fun, make it clear and set the dog up for success. Who doesn't learn faster, when it is FUN? I've trained dogs and horses for over 30 years and I always tell my clients, "If you aren't having fun, your dog probably isn't either." Watching how you work with your dogs (and kids), it is clear that YOU are having a good time too. I wish more trainers would "get it" and understand it isn't about EGO.. it's about teaching a puppy HOW to learn and setting the foundation for the dog to want to join up. Showing them, like YOU do, that there is a wonderful benefit for working with the human! I hope LOTS of dog owners are watching you work with your dogs and pups... I strongly believe this is how to nurture a confident, happy dog that will not fail you, when you need what they bring to the relationship. You Rock... (I also love that you are a patriot!)

Hi Stonnie. Your videos are hands down the best IMO. I’ve watched video after video of yours. I’m trying to educate myself as much as possible before my GSP puppy is here in a few months . One suggestion and please don’t take this the wrong way I’ve given thumbs up to everyone of your videos and love all of them. My suggestion pertains to especially this video and some others of yours. You are so good at what you do and always get great results from your dogs and show us the finish product. If you could show us more videos on the steps leadyup to the finish product when things don’t go perfect which is probably the norm for most people starting out I think that would be very helpful. Again please don’t take this negatively your communication to the viewer and the dogs is the best I’ve seen out there. Ty very much

Libertarians want limited (think: small) government. Still public, but a fraction of what it is now. Other ideas include personal freedoms, decreased regulation, lower taxes, less government involvement (let the private market fill voids where the government shouldn't be). Libertarian can essentially be oversimplified to the addage "leave me alone".

Thanks for this... very helpful! We have just adopted a kennel-raised 6 mo male yellow lab who knows how to fetch/hand-deliver and relax in a crate for car-rides or sleeping. No come, sit, stay, down etc at all! Wonderful, happy, goofy, bouncy, exuberant little guy (with mega-esophagus, another story). I think we are moving too fast with end goal in mind and then having to fuss and wrangle. He needs to be on leash or line at all times, or we will ruin "come", right?

my guy is a street rescue around 8 weeks old and i want him to be a family personal protection dog. I saved his life but i don't think he knows that lol He likes to anchor down when his leash is on and just not move or listen to anything,its like he doesn't trust what your saying or your leading him into a trap. The louder and more stern you get the more he doesn't think he should listen. how do i let him know what he's doing is wrong without punishing him and what videos do you recommend to train him to be such, because I've watched a few but like if i were to put a sling on my buddys arm and tell Ace to attack he wouldn't move, and i want it done the right way- were no where close to any of that yet, I'm still trying to get him to use self control and patience. still trying to get him to see if he just listens to me ill make sure he gets what he wants. I need videos on how to get into the aggressive training being as green as it gets, and introducing him to the training without him getting more aggressive to family and non threats. along with WHEN to start that at…i saw you had a 14 week old up on the table in a video,,,light brown,,you were just trying to teach him some patience…reminded me of exactly what mine will look and act like in a couple weeks, hopefully a little more still…so based off of that dog when would you start the protection training and with what drill? or where do i look to find this on your page? i really need detailed stuff. He's nothing like the german sheppard (it looked like) i saw you doing the arm biting drill with.. how do i get him to act like that? and with the heel, and walking on your side…he likes to walk 3 feet behind my right side do i let that go? like its close enough?, and likes to run into and even chase your feet, he will walk right in front of you, lay down right behind you… how do i teach him not to run figure 8s through my legs while I'm walking without hurting him? This is a lot i know haha..i won't be mad if you don't have time. Ill keep looking through your videos in the meantime.
@themostbigsisterenergyyouv7528 жыл бұрын
Some of what you want is just base instinct, and if the puppy doesn't have it, you can't make him have it, you'll just scare him. don't be aggressive toward your dog, focus on building trust and obedience, then worry about 'drive' and his enthusiasm for protection. my most protective doberman didn't display any protective behavior until she was six months old.

One last thing. I was reading a training book once that pointed something interesting out. The author said that several times he had challenged owners who said their dog's stay was unbreakable. That any distraction wouldn't move them. The author actually won the bets by telling the owners to leave their dogs at a dead run instead of a walk. An oft-overlooked detail you might want to keep in mind.
@StonnieDennis4 жыл бұрын
What makes you think I haven’t thought about that? If a human being spends time trying to think of ways to make a dog fail, then the dog will fail every time. What’s the point of having such a negative mindset?

@@StonnieDennis I'm sorry I came off that way. It wasn't meant to be negative, just point out something I felt was missing in the video. what you need to do is practice on the street in the park on your neighbor's porch beside your house comma on the Street, you need to practice outside of your house for your dog to be good outside of your house you need to practice with kids around other dogs every place and in every situation you can think of

Yeah and start with a lot shorter times, maybe start at 15 seconds then add 5-10 seconds when he seams to be getting it. Work up to at least 3 minutes, I have my dog at a 30 minute down stay, and 10 minute sit and stand stay and he will hold those almost everywhere

There’s not really a command of “stay”. There is sit. There is heel. There is hup or whoa. And everyone of those commands should be obeyed until the dog is released. So one of the ways to teach the unbreakable sit, is to teach the dog to wait for the release command, which can be anything from a clap of your hands to just saying OK. And once the dog knows to wait for the release command that then he’ll get to go do what he wants you have the unbreakable sit.
@StonnieDennis6 жыл бұрын
Well, you are obviously wrong. I have 270 vides demonstrating that what I do works. Where is your body of work? I looked at your channel, you have zero content. Big mouth...zero content...
@_jurist6 жыл бұрын
Actually, I’ve trained the only dog in the country to be a hunting retriever champion “HRCH” UKC, Master hunter “MH” pointing dog AKC, and NAVHDA prize one utility dog. The breath of skills you have to teach to one dog, to be able to do all of the different skills, at the highest level, over the widest possible skill set, and I don’t know what I’m talking I’ve helped hundreds of people, train their dogs. And the problem has never been the dogs. By the way never said your way didn’t work. Stay is just an added nuisance command. I find most people are confused by it. And when they remove that from their Training, the dogs learn faster.
@StonnieDennis6 жыл бұрын
Jurist Okay, so now put that training work, in an easy to understand format for amateur trainers and let’s take a look at it. I want to see the process. The stay is not a nuisance at all, as that is the normal conversational way that people talk. If you have really helped as many people as you say you have, then by now you should realize that there are certain common speech patterns that are easier to incorporate into a training regimen than not. The dogs learn fast when trainers have fun and can be themselves.
@StonnieDennis6 жыл бұрын
Here’s something simple that we can do. I’ll put up a video of a couple of 16 week old puppies tomorrow that are being taught using a conversational style. You put up two sixteen week old puppies that are being trained using a non conversational style. We can compare. Is that a deal?
@_jurist6 жыл бұрын
Stonnie Dennis it is not about training the dog, it is about training the trainer. The dogs will respond to consistency. If I tell my dog to “sit” and then start talking to someone, does my dog get to get up and do what he wants after it gets bored or distracted, When he wants, Because I didn’t say “sit stay” or then add a “stay” once I start talking? How about heel, do I have to say “heel stay” Or the dog gets to move away from my side? How about kennel? Do I have to say kennel, and then add a “stay” to it once the dog is in there? Or should I just be able to say kennel, and the dog knows you have to stay there until I tell it it can come out? All the release command is doing, is teaching the dog to concentrate, and do the last thing it was commanded to do until released. You are adding stay to everything. When I’m going out the door, do I have to tell the dog “sit stay”? Then open the door, and release the dog? Or should I just say sit? I don’t think it’s more conversational, I think it’s the fact that people don’t understand, that the dog has to stay in whatever command you have just given it until released. So people think by saying “stay” to the dog, it’s suddenly knows what the word stay means in English. You’ve just added “stay” as a way of saying I mean the sit command now. Where as before it was just a temporary suggestion. Don’t have any puppies. You can either refute the logic, or move on.
