This week's video shows you how to train your pet bird how to play with toys. Parrots get so much benefit from toy interactions, so it's so important that they know how to do it!
We often assume our birds know how to play with toys because they are labelled "bird toys" but often, they need to be taught how to interact with them!

Teaching my conure to chew on command has helped a lot with helping her understand what is meant for her to shred up. We’d point and say “chew this” and reward her when she’d beak it or chew it. After several rounds of this over several days, she was eventually only rewarded when she’d chomp a bite off the chewable toy. Now she goes into shredding queen mode when we tell her to chew and has learned to chew her toys on her own without prompting. When she shreds on her own, we praise her and sing 🎶 🪩 she is the shredding queen!! 🪩 🎵 in the style of ABBA 😂

Hi, I had that same thing with my bird, a green cheek conure,and I eventually went and bought 4 new toys and he started playing the same day, mostly wood toys and some paper and cork😮❤❤❤❤

Don’t give up if one type of toy doesn’t work out. Try many different materials like David mentioned. Sometimes they’ll change their mood and come to love a material they didn’t care for before. Patience and persistence will eventually lead you to an avid chewer! It’s in their nature
