Superbowls! How interesting, I've been doing this with horses and donkeys for years. It's great to have some rhythmic well liked R+ trained behaviours with a really strong R+ history that we can use when introducing a SD/CC program and ping pong between them and use the behaviours and latency as a guide as to how they are coping. I scatter buckets or mats to drop food on for my equines 😊

Superbowls - thank you. This will be interesting with our dogs but I will play with how to adapt pattern games to horses that are fearful when away from their herd. I also think (as I have anxiety problems myself in that area) that playing the pattern game will help the human part of the team to keep focussed on the wanted behaviour (of the human): staying calm and predictable.

This is great, thank you. May I suggest it would be helpful to have the camera on the dogs the whole time showing the behavior instead of watching you talk. Not that you are not pleasant to watch but that time would be better spent watching and learning how to teach the behaviors.

Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, KZbin seems to work better with both A Roll and B roll mixed in throughout the video. I do have a recent one though in which I show the entire training session. Maybe it is a format that I can explore more in the future.

Hey Karen. Yes and no. I have clients that do exactly that and always have a small set of colourful bowls with them. I have others that will just put some improvised prompts on the floor (sticks or rocks etc) and just stop and reinforce in those spots.

Hello again and also my class only had three other dogs and my dog got stimulated by the other dogs bowls and he couldn’t concentrate so it sounds to me like maybe he could never be in a group class even though there was only three other dogs I guess I could try it alone at home, but every time we would take it out he would do the same thing he’s just very stimulating out of control

Definitely start at home and then outdoors. Then, from a long distance to other dogs and finally a little more close to other dogs. Get help from behaviour consultant as well.

Hello and thank you for showing this game by Leslie. I have all her DVDs and we’ve tried this in class with my dog, but it blows his mind no matter what and he goes and picks up the bowl. What would you suggest we do?

Thanks for your commend. It is hard to know with just a brief description, but perhaps you probably need to consider how to slice the behaviour down to really easy components and then slowly increase the distraction level.
