I have been watching you for less than a week and I'm already starting to connect a lot of dots. Been playing guitar since 2009 and i barely dipped my toes into the modes but that was it, besides the pentatonic. Getting the CAGED has me transposing and now i know why i play what i play when learning new songs. Your phrasing exercises are great! I sing but i never had the habbit to sing along when phrasing and now I've started! Im having fun and it is helping me memorise phrases so much better. Your teaching style is amazing. Everything is communicated clearly, your voice is calming and your approach is encouraging. Your channel is like a treasure chest! I love it! Thank you❤🙏🏻

You're too right, brother. I've had that mindset you discussed for so long. I went to a really good university and thought that I was set for life because I'd have a degree from there. Jump to me graduating and I had avoided learning so much that I was technically more knowledgable but not more skilled in terms of practical application (the equivalent for many readers of this comment is watching every guitar theory video you can but never actually implementing it or using it to your benefit). I'm only now learning some of the fundamental skills of my profession and I graduated years ago. It was an epiphany moment when I realized that practice really works. I know it sounds stupid, but I've been watching a ton of your videos and I think you'd agree: once you internalize the idea that you can become better at anything by practicing deliberately, your world is open. Ive been improving at everything more than ever in my life because I finally accept practice and progress. I used to work for an organization that would say "practice makes parity" as opposed to "practice makes perfect" because of course there is no perfect but there is certainly amount of practice that will take you to the level of being mostly as good as anyone youve seen do the thing you want to do. Which to me - even though it isnt as snappy as practice makes perfect - is actually so much more true and inspiring.

What an empowering perspective! Thanks for sharing that for us :)

Thank you !! I really like your approach. I have heard people give really extreme advice related to music and it stressed me out. I completed an audition for a Music school and passed . And then, after the audition, I was told I needed to practice 3 hours a day. But I was still making good progress regardless. I can't play for more than 30 minutes to an hour a day due to a health condition but ! I felt a bit .. upset by that . Because he was not taking me into consideration and just giving advice that's meant to fit for all people.

Thank you for another useful lesson. Sometimes a more thoughtful approach to our practicing will benefit us more in the long run than anything else we may be doing. Given me a lot to think about.

Excellent advice. Sadly, I’ve seen way too many teachers, especially at music school who were some of the most dogmatic people I ever met. I suspect it was because of the brutal competition for symphony gigs which their teaching supplemented. Work on what inspires you is great advice. Cheers!

Another great lesson. Somehow, every time you make this type of videos, you say exactly what I needed hear. I am sure I am not the only one. Keep them coming. Thanks! Edit: I would love a podcast about playing simple things and being OK with it. I have improved during this past year, thanks in great part to your lesson. The problem is that now I feel I overplay things. It is hard to enjoy simple songs that I used to sing and play by just strumming basic chords, because it feels too simple. But if I make a complex arrangement(complex for my skill level), it feels like I am showing off and not playing from the heart.

Thanks! I'm glad these kinds of videos are helpful :) I'll add that idea to my list of potential future videos 👍

Can you please explain the significance of the 3/4 time signature in your "Guitar Warm Up" verses using a 4/4 or a 6/8 etc.
@MorningCarnival16 күн бұрын
3/4 is a waltz. Think “De, da, da, De, da, da, De, da, da” 123,123, 123, emphasise the 1.
@jimm490516 күн бұрын
@MorningCarnival Thanks for your reply. I understand a 3/4 signature, but my question is why Jared choose a 3/4 verses some other time signature? For example, on Jared's "Top 3 Pentatonic Scale Patterns" workout a time signature is not specified.
@soundguitar15 күн бұрын
Totally. I chose 3/4 time because each set of six strings can be separated by line.

Hi Jared - a little off topic - but what model is that Fender Telecaster you use? I’m looking at buying a new guitar and have just started one of your courses - I notice it seems really versatile. NB. The most powerful thing I took away from this was the bit about imagining you’re advising someone else what they should be learning. That really got me thinking more objectively !

Happy to share: My tele is a 2011 American Standard Telecaster with the stock fender pickups. Glad to hear your takeaway!
@BigBlueRabbit2 күн бұрын
Thanks Jared. The guitar sounds nice - good to know they’re standard pickups 👍🏻

Jared I wonder if you do this warm up exercise regardless of which type of guitar you pick up: electric, acoustic or classical?
@soundguitar3 күн бұрын
Yep, I do the same warm up on all the guitars I play.
