Thanks, that was helpful, I have a 897 that has been sitting for years in the shack, bought for a trip that never happened. I really did not know if it was a D or not. I just opened it up and with your help confirmed that it was a D, thanks!

Thanks for this video Andy and for the repair of the FP-29 power supply to my FT-1000MP Mark-V back in March 2020! "Very 73 de Cliff, KU4GW"

Hello, Andy. Thanks for the video! I have an 857D, and I am getting no audio through the internal speaker for some reason. I tried a factory reset and an external speaker, but still no sound. Do you have any ideas why my radio would lose audio? Thanks!

Does it work with an external speaker?

So if you took a NON D 857 added the DSP board & did the Mars mod do you now functionally speaking have a 857D ?

Functionally correct. I never understood why 857 are a lot cheaper. Most people don’t use the DSP anyway. If I were building a Go Box. I would use an 857 mars mod. You can even talk on energy channels.

Or, you could…you know……..look at the actual BOX THEY CAME IN FROM THE FACTORY……has the SN on the box and both models’ boxes clearly show 857D and 897D on my boxes. (And yes, I bought mine new from authorized dealers.)
