Freshest eggs do sink. Older eggs begin to float as they lose water or dehydrate, but are fine to eat. A BAD EGG Floats very high 1/3 out of water 2/3 in water, AND when shaken feels slushy (like it has water in it) and that egg is BAD. Another way to TEST FOR SURE is to break all eggs in a separate bowl first: (If smells bad and the Whites are thin like water for sure it is a BAD EGG DO NOT EAT IT)... but (If the No Smell and Whites are thick and NOT LIKE WATER, it is Good egg) add to your mix or frying pan. I hope this helps you not waste eatable food.

@@user-xr4jy5vv4f Probably not even relevant today but incase you someone still don't know. They used to say there was a method of telling if someone was a witch, it was called "Swimming". They would tie the person up and dunk her into water, typically a river. If she sank she wasn't a witch. If she floated then she was a witch. The funny thing is women float more than men do and that different things can change how much you float, like being fat for instance. The more fat you have the lighter you are in water.

Eggs that float may still be safe to eat. Crack the egg to really tell. If it smells bad, don't eat it. All three of the eggs she tested were fine to eat. To prove my point I ate several eggs this week that have been in my fridge since August, 2020 and it's a day shy of November. They were yummy. No fever, no vomiting, no other symptoms of Salmonella. I didn't have to get my stomach pumped or nuffin.

Producers take eggs off the store shelves after the sell date, rewash them and repackage them. In most stores eggs don't stay on the shelf very long. Maybe a day at most. So the eggs you buy are a week old at best. Modern farming is very efficient

So what exactly is the trouble with stale eggs? Some of the water has vaporized and the whites have gone soft. But does it really become bad to eat it? I once left some eggs whites in the fridge for a couple of weeks, surely they're weak and you should be careful with bacterial growth, but it never seemed like you couldn't eat it (once you've heated it sufficiently). It's not like it rots or moulds...

So I'm living alone, and most times, I forget that I have eggs in the fridge. I decided to test this, and the eggs all sink to thr bottom, but only stand up on one end of the egg. So they're vertical, but heavy enough to still be touching the bottom of the glass cup. Technically, they're still good. At least better than stale eggs, right?
@cosmogurl0693 жыл бұрын
No, she said, if it's STALE, it will sit up in a vertical position, and if it's VERY stale, it will float in a vertical position. Only fresh eggs are horizontal and sink. And not so fresh, are horizontal, but slightly tilt, because they are starting to come up to the vertical position.
@maxbob7914 жыл бұрын
So I believe, because eggs contain carbon dioxide in the form of carbonic acid. The acid slowly escapes the egg as carbon dioxide gas that passes through the pores. So as the egg becomes more alkaline, the sulfur is able to react with hydrogen to form hydrogen sulfide gas. Am I correct?
