The 2 are fresh eggs while the other one is no longer fresh. Fertilized and unfertilized can be determined by candling. The other way is to submerge these eggs in water after a few days of brooding, if an egg touches the bottom like a fresh egg used to, it is more probably unfertilized. Fertilized eggs during the brooding process became lighter.

Candling is done after incubation starts. Like 5 days in. This is to determine if it’s fertilized before you start incubation. The float thing, I’ve tried it and the 3 week old did the same thing the day one egg done and I don’t have a single roo in my flock so it wasn’t because of fertilization.

After watching this test I gave it a try with quartz rock I found on ground at a friends. I took an egg that hen is not with rooster and 2 eggs (1 Whiting & 1 Maran both with a Whiting rooster). After attaching a piece of looped sewing thread to a small quartz ( white with some clear mingled in), I held it like Izabella does, & over the unfertilzed egg it barled moved. Then over the Maran egg; the quartz began to move. I made total sure I was steady. Yes, it began to move the move more then beging to spin Counter Clockwise. Then the Whiting egg; it began to spin Clockwise and with vigor in a large circle!!! I put the rock down immediatly it startled me so much!!! then I did it all again and recorded myself. But on an odd note: After showing a friend it didn't work for her at all. Then another friend tried it and quartz began to spin just like it did for me! and looking at me in amazement said "I'm not doing that!" The proof is in doing it. My question is: if rooster it swings one direction and if pullet it swings the other??? Any one know???

OK, after two yrs of hatching n experimenting with quartz and a 5/8" nut on string, Ican now say is 99% accurate. Last hatch 100% accurate at lock down. Yes, I do one last test at Lock Down on all eggs in incubator. (Eggs that do not form at all the nut or rock doesn't move) female swings Clockwise. Male has been swinging back n forth, rarely Counter clockwise. NOW! The Fun Begins! hold over the back of your hand n see what it does. Yep! Same as eggs. Now chciks hatching. Hold over their backs just barely above their back from wings little. Nut or rock or gold ring will swing to show sex. Now if that still is not enough proof for anyone, go get one of your hens and hold just above their back down from wings an inch or so. Will ALWAYS swing Clockwise. Now go pick up a Rooster. It will swing back and forth, some 10 or 12 wk old roos will swing Counter Clockwise. Yep! I will pick them up and Doble check at 6 to 10 wks. Been an interesting experience this yr. PS DOES NOT work if you mount on a stand n hold egg or chick/chicken underneath. Has something do with energy in our bodies. There you Go! Happy Experimenting!

This would be a more believable experiment if you hung the crystal from a hook over the egg, that way you can't influence the movement of the crystal. Even if you think you aren't moving, you may be subconsciously making micromovements based on already knowing which egg is fertilized.

You know you can shut the haters up by propping the crytal on a stand, and moving the egg underneath the crystal , so that the crystal totally out of your hand’s influence, and setting up the camera far enough to see nothing was done to manipulate the crystal. But you didnt. Which makes me think you probably did try to set it up that way afterwards, and it didnt work.

I have wondered about this for years !! Thank you . The person last commenting , obviously did not see the difference in the degree of movement of the crystal from the fertilized, to the unfertilized. Knowing even air movi g in the room can cause movement even if it were hanging from a secured hook, but it would have needed more " breeze" or shift of body position ( even though minor) to cause the " fertilized " movement. Just my observation .
