Dr Lori, my husband was in Germany for Desert Storm and he had along weekend. Went to Paris and spent 2 days at the Louve. He loved it. I purchased a box of" junk jewelry" the other day. In the bottom, I found a 18' strand of graduated pearls 4mm to 7mm, they are peach colored, not knotted, but 14K white gold clasp. There was also a lot of signed vintage costume jewelry I love junk. Lol

I noticed when I was in college that some people can easily recognize small differences in pictures or objects, other people need more practice. Because it is easy for you, Dr. Lori, doesn't mean it is impossible for us, we just need to do what you say, "look for quality" and the tips you have pointed out as "quality." I also remember that in college, I thought old, cracked and falling apart meant it was an antique, quality and valuable. You have opened my eyes!! Now I realize that quality often is so much better looking for it's age than I would expect.

thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. i enjoy seeing how things are made especially wooden bowls, spoons, potatoe mashers, tin candle holders and also pewter pieces most of my favorites are low value but still love to collect them. Also enjoy collecting fruit jars and crocks. Just wanted to say many of us enjoy the items even though we dont resell we probably help those who do because we buy what we like not necessarily to make money. thanks again

This is your best info ever! I remember sitting in our class auditorium in high school 1975 and seeing Ramsey portrayed on the screen. I ( as a teenager) burst out with " Ramsey!!". Several teachers turned & looked at me.

Hi Dr Lori! Here's a question for your next bowl segment: How much impact does the economy have on the value of objects? Do they generally decrease in value during a recession, like real estate does? Or, are they more likely to hold their value if they are still on trend/in style at the time of the sale?

I know this may seem obvious, but one thing I like to do is look at examples of Limoges porcelain that I know is real/authentic. That way I can learn what they do in terms of decoration, typical shapes used, popular colors used, materials used, etc. When you know what the real deal looks like, it’s easier to know when you see a fake/lower quality piece.

Dr. Lori I have a question concerning an antique journal we purchased from a basement sale. I told my sister she should be wearing gloves while looking through it, my plan is to scan the pages so we can enjoy it without damaging the book. The book was dedicated from a brother to his sister, many people have written to Sarah in the journal and there are some ink drawings & engravings. The earliest date is 1843, I've noticed some darkening from the engravings onto the opposite page, is vellum acid free or is there another paper we should use in front of the engravings to preserve the opposite page? This is an amazing book, I'm so happy we saved it from the junk journal makers. Lol!

I am wondering & I'm sure you have covered this... I am creating a will & wanted to appraise everything before finishing it. However, due to health issues I have to just do the best I can. Can I stipulate that my son hire you for an entire walk-through so my greedy family doesn't take advantage? He's very technically savvy so that isn't a problem. I did not know how to ask this as a question. I know from you, my grandbaby could lose out if I do not do the necessaries to write my will properly. Thank you, as always! ❤️

I bought a piece that’s a Kwan-Yin statues do I wonder how I tell if it is just resin or Shoushan Stone? All I found is a flame or hot needle test. Should I do that and will I get accurate results from it?

Dr Lori, I am saving up $199 so you can appraise some pieces of art and ceramics for me via video call. I’m not quite there yet but will be soon. In the meantime I have a question?? Once I get the value of my items how do I get the appraisal (physically) in my hand so I can sell the items? Do I go to an auction house, list on EBay or what? TY!

Have you watched all of my reselling tips videos? Read all of my reselling tips articles on my website? It will depend on the piece as far as selling. For example, look at it from the other side. Do you go shopping at one place to buy everything you need or want? Are you going to find milk at the auto parts store?
