For those who don’t understand what rattle means by “oil puddle of holo / rainbow” - when you tilt a real alt art card from sword and shield and on, they have almost like a northern light wave instead of just being one big flashy holo / rainbow mess - this is like an automatic dead giveaway to most fake cards cause of how it’s near impossible to replicate this

I'm getting really tired of counterfeiters in everything. I just ordered a copy of Leaf Green for like $120 USD. Took me several days of scanning ebay and watching youtube videos just to feel confident enough to pull the trigger, because the fakes have gotten so convincing. My 8 year old is so educated in Pokémon. He spots fakes soo quick. We were at a trade night and a bunch of kids had fakes in their binder and my son just kept telling them no thanks on the trades bc they were fake and didn’t want to hurt the kids feelings. Really sucks for the kids that the parents thought they were doing a cool thing by buying their kid a card they wanted only to find out it’s fake.

Great video. I run a local card shop and have to unfortunately tell kids quite often that they got fakes and it sucks. Good tips and if you buy Pokemon I recommend buying from local card shop or at least a big box store otherwise.

the light test works for me...japanese and fake cards bleed a lot of light through, real ones, barely any or none at all leak through. Same with the print quality on the back of the card, it can be very obvious when the red on the poke ball looks orange and the DPI is comparable to a printer from 2003 lol

I'm much more concerned about being scammed in the scarlet/Violet series. The S/V cards all feel more like the fake cards I've seen in past eras. The rarer S/V cards lack that look, feel, and texture from the previous eras and I definitely feel like they'd be easier to fake. While I'd love to believe that their lack of high dollar hits will keep scummy scammers from bothering to fake them, that doesn't seem to have stopped them with previous lower value cards. I definitely wouldn't be as knowledgeable as I am with previous eras if it weren't for Rattles videos though, I appreciate the knowledge you share!

Good vid. Yeah, I just grabbed a .01 common and looked at the back and I could see several visual differences so just check the back of one of your common cards for comparison. Like you mentioned, it is a game of 'can you spot the difference' and if you cant whatsoever then your card is looking more legit.

Mannn, thank you for saying this!! Parent's don't understand that even when buying for their kids how they do end up in situations where they'll trade! I went to an event and this kid had this fake rainbow charizard vmax and tried to trade me and he knew it was fake, i hadn't even gave it a good look yet before he started picking cards out that he'd trade it for... Right before I really looked at it, a buddy came up to me and the kid and saw that he had out the charizard vmax and told him "remember that charizard was fake? you came into my store yesterday and I told you it was" I was in total shock because an adult who i assumed was his parent was standing there the whole time. So yeah, bottom line is LOOK.... Don't go off word, make sure you check before finalizing any trades! I agree that people shouldn't even buy the proxies for kids man due to this. Worst part is, the kid tried to tell me he won the card from a tournament he placed in, that it was right before Champions Path dropped and they rewarded him the rainbow charizard, so that it was even rarer.... nuts!!!

the rip test is funny to me. I can see someone ripping a real card and having instant regret. If you have a jeweler's loupe you can just look at the side of the card to see if the layer is there without potentially destroying a real card.

The problem is the FOMO with these. People get deals that seem too good to be true. I was guilty of purchasing two Neo Genesis T-17 1st editions in "Mint" condition nearly 3 years ago for over 1k. They were played. Seller didn't take a return... Luckily I've learned from those days never to FOMO because end of the day you realise just how many of these "rare" cards are around when you've collected for a few years. Opportunities always are there and a 20-30% saving doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things in one deal.

I understand people hiding things and being sneaky but if it’s in the title of the product, yeah, should have read 2. What I find interesting about the rise of fake cards is that it's going to directly result in more sales of graded cards, and more cards graded in general. I know that Rattle isn't a fan of grading, but this is one of the big reasons grading took a hold of TCGs in the first place. I realize that all the grading companies have let some fake 1st edition cards slip in the past (and maybe other types that I'm not aware of), but those are incredibly rare overall.

I was very surprised and caught off guard to see my custom jumbo etsy shop featured in this video. I create jumbo cards and am quite proud of what I do. Just want to point out a few things-these are jumbo cards, not standard sized. I specifically do not produce standard sized cards in order to maintain my distance from the more sketchy stuff. This all started because I absolutely love jumbo cards and wanted to see if I could make some of my favorite cards that were never released in jumbo format into my own custom jumbo cards so I can display them in my first partners binder. 2-I offer a variety of non standard holo patterns, this makes each card unique and the customer can choose which holo pattern they like best. And most importantly, these non standard holo patterns are purposely used so that you can clearly tell that this is a fun one of a kind jumbo and not some sketchy product trying to pass itself off as an official Pokémon card. When I was a kid the JP vending machine stickers with the crazy Holo pattern left quite the impression on me, so when making my own cards I’m quite open to using the more outlandish Holo patterns when it enhances the artwork. Also, read my listings, they are very transparent on my production processes, I lay out all the steps that I take so you too could make your own custom jumbos if you wanted. Warning, it’s kinda difficult but fun and rewarding! In my listings I try to be as clear as possible to not represent these cards as official. That message is the absolute most important thing that I want people to know when presenting my work. I also do not create cards that already have an official Pokémon jumbo release. And once again, I do not produce standard sized cards in order to further distance myself from all of those sketchy fake proxies that unscrupulous people could do harm with. Remember, jumbo cards are about fun, not profit. I’m a huge fan of your, Rattle, and I would love to make a custom jumbo for you on the house. Just DM me with your favorite artwork that was never jumbofied, and I will gladly do it, and can guarantee you will want to sleeve it up because it is so beautiful. My favorite cards to make aren’t the chase cards, they are the ones that are meaningful to people for their own personal reasons. And it really allows me to appreciate the lesser known artwork that I would normally have missed. Thanks! Matt

This video gave me an epiphany. This is not hate. You basically told the viewer to look on the internet for the “real” card. You gave some good advice but fake cards are circulating everywhere, being graded and even fooling people claiming to be experts just save their ego after realizing they got got. You are knowledgeable and confident in your skills. The people using this advice are not (we call this our blindside in academia). Pokémon needs add a secret translucent identifier on legitimate cards. Then people could scan the cards in a Pokémon App or take a picture/use a downloaded picture. This app could lead to catching fakes and track so much more information/data…

Bought a fake Charizard holo from evolutions, card looked very real in the pictures, but up close I spotted colour differences and font discrepancies. The seller was a huge dick about so I lost most of my money. Lesson learned...
