Please do not do this unless it is YOUR jewelry!! This is a "destructive" test. Many the time a customer has come into my store and tried this on MY stock! Mostly to show off. Same with pearls. Please don't rub my pearls on your teeth! Difficult for me to clean and sanitize for the next customer. Shop at a reputable store and you don't have to worry.

Yes, I agree. I have a diamond ring found flattened and traffic worn in a south bound highway lane. The ring itself had been hit by tires numerous times, the band's setting crown somehow remained vertical, and the stone did not break. The stone was taken to a jeweler. His assistant walked it to the back to show him. Returning immediately with the declaration "I sorry, it is a synthetic, but would you like to sell it for $20.00? I still have it. If it is a synthetic, it is one like I've never encountered before? Traffic, the tires of transportation, at high speed, and more than most industrially under load mind you would have hammered the stone to dust 'if' it was a synthetic? But survived being run over countless times.

Sapphires come in many varieties of blue. The light blue sapphire I have catches the light and sparkles like no tomorrow. It certainly gets attention because of that but many folk aren't aware that sapphires can be light blue. One of the mist important thing with any gem is to keep it clean! Polish it every day, a soft toothbrush with ammonia if they're really dirty - but keep them shiny and enjoy that sparkle!

5:00 min in I hated you, sorry but you skip the whole part of inclusions, the part everyone is looking for. Breath test and scratch test is so basic. A good test if u know its old is to look at the lines of the cut. Good stone cutters the ones that know what they are doing the stones are not symmetrical the facets of them are made as the stone is ground. It's a trial and error process with real stones fake ones all have the same cut "cookie cutter" if you will.

I have a question: why do the blue sapphires in fine jewellery always look so dark? Aren't lighter blue sapphires available? I once saw a huge blue stone (not sure what it was) but it was midway between what I think of as dark sapphire blue (the blue of Princess Diana/Kate Middleton's engagement ring sapphire) and blue topaz, more of a swimming pool blue. It was absolutely gorgeous but why does this colour seem so rare?
@corgems39514 жыл бұрын
Hi Gled, blue is a darker color that is closer to Black than lighter shades like yellow and green. A few sapphires do have both Rich color and brightness. The electric blue of topaz is the result of irradiation treatment, while good quality Sapphire is untreated or treated with heat only. kzbin.info/www/bejne/on-XhHWKjaanbLc

Watch crystals come in plastic, glass and sapphire. If you buy a sapphire crystal off fleabay you will likely get glass. Good quality watches usually have sapphire, but there are exceptions Seiko often uses what they call Hardlex, which is a hardened glass, not a sapphire. They use those in some watches ta are kind of pricey, but a sapphire will scratch them.
